It's almost that most wonderful time of the year, when it's socially acceptable -- nay, encouraged -- for grown women to wear over-the-top glitter n
Nail art--in its over-the-top 3D incarnation, at least--is waning in popularity a bit, and polishes aimed at giving you a nail art-y feel without all the work have been taking its place. We tried tons of the so-called textured polishes--here's what we think.
From subtle shimmer to full-on glitter, and every shade of red imaginable, the holiday nail polish collections are pretty fancy this year. Here are the 10 best we've seen for the sparkliest season of the year.
Yes it's still August, but the days are already shorter and the nights a bit cooler. You know what that means: It's time for the fall nail polish coll
Welcome to our nail art column–the Top Coat! Every week we’ll be doing a step-by-step nail art tutorial. We’ve already told you the essentials you ne
Are you in the mood for spring? We certainly are (and if you're not, just check out Felicity Jones at left in the new Dolce & Gabbana spring beauty ad for some inspiration). Despite the fact that nude nails had a strong showing on both the spring and recent fall runways, beauty companies are giving us lots of colorful options, too. The story in fashion right now is all about color--and whether you like brights or pastels, you have tons of new nail polish options out there to complement your look. We already found 10 colors to crave for spring, but more collections are hitting stores soon. Click through to see the new spring/summer collections from Zoya, Dolce & Gabbana, NARS, and Tom Ford.
Designer nail polish collaborations are nothing new, and despite Cathy Horyn declaring at the end of 2011 that they were boring, they don't seem to be slowing down yet. And we're totally fine with that. During our various visits backstage (and stalking our beauty friends on Twitter) this season, we learned about a few exciting new collabs. From Alexander Wang to Betsey Johnson, some cool new nail sets will hit stores this August. And there's even one beloved designer making his first foray into color cosmetics. Intrigued? Click through for all the scoop on which designers will be gracing your digits this coming fall.
When it starts to get really cold, the only thing we can think about is warmth. And the sun. And color. While we can't have the first two quite yet, cosmetics companies are meeting our need for the third: The spring nail polish collections are here! (Or will be very soon.) While there were a lot of neutral nails on spring runways, it seems like color for real-life nails is going nowhere. From bright pastels to shocking neon, we're happy that nails aren't going to be so serious this season. Click through to see our ten favorite shades from the collections.
It's officially chilly out, so that means it's time to start thinking about your holiday nail wardrobe (yes, you need a holiday nail wardrobe). While red is obviously a classic (and look how amazing it is on Karlie Kloss in Dior's beauty holiday campaign), and we've been wearing a lot of it this fall, there are tons of other offerings out there. From pearly neutrals to metallics to the highest concentration of glitter you've ever seen, you are a complete Grinch if you can't find something suitable. Click through to see all the little bottles we hope to find in our stockings this year.
Slime, spiders and ghouls, oh my!
It's Labor Day, and while there are no longer any fashion or beauty rules, we're sick of pastels and neons on our nails. Nail polish brands, from designers to the drugstore, are offering tons of darker and duskier options for fall that feel fresh and right for the upcoming season. From traditional lacquer to nail art, click through for the ten best nail options we've found for fall.
While I have to admit I have a little bit of nail art fatigue and am looking forward to some of the gorgeous nude polishes that are launching this fall, my interest was definitely peaked again at Cosmoprof. Nails are still a huge focal point for the industry, and there are new brands, new trends, and new innovations. While some struck me as gimmicky, some are definitely going to turn into modern classics. Click through to check out my trend report and learn a bit about some new things in the world of nails that are launching soon.
If Zoya's fall 2011 nail polish collection is an indication of things to come for our nails, we can't wait for the leaves to start falling. Called "Smoke and Mirrors," it's a 12-color collection which includes six cream shades and six metallics. You can pre-order them now from Zoya's website if you can't wait until the official July 15 release; they'll go for $8 a pop.
