Tanner Fletcher Takes a Road Trip to New England for Spring 2027

Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell, the design duo behind Tanner Fletcher, may both hail from the Midwest (Wisconsin and Minnesota, respectively), but for Spring 2027, they’re headed to the East Coast. The brand unveiled its latest collection during a preview at its Chelsea studio on Monday, an expansive 61-look lineup that marks the second chapter of “Cabin Wear,” which Kasell described as “sort of a brand within a brand” for Tanner Fletcher.

Where the brand’s first Cabin Wear collection centered on “the woodsy Midwest nostalgia of fall,” this second one shifts to “a relaxed coastal sensibility,” per collection notes. Richie and Kasell take road trips around New England to collect antiques often, they told Fashionista during the preview. “A lot of those pieces are what inspired the collection and our first little nod to nautical,” Richie said. Those nautical themes can be seen in details such as sailboats adorning a dress collar, sailor suit-adjacent silhouettes, middy blouses and neckerchiefs.

The collection also spans evening wear, knits and swimwear – including the debut of women’s swim for the brand — and even “a little boost on our wedding collection,” as Richie put it. “It’s very broad, and we love it. We really see our world as the kind of full encompassing lifestyle of our customers. So we want to make sure that they can get their swim here, but they can also get their wedding dress [and] they can get everything in between.”

“We always say rather than designers, we like to build a world. So if you’re in the Tanner Fletcher world, you should be able to get anything you need,” Kasell added.

Benjamin Seidler Debuts His Namesake Jewelry Label at New York Fashion Week

After spending years working behind the scenes as a jewelry and accessories designer for some of fashion’s top brands, Benjamin Seidler is now stepping into the spotlight. On Monday morning, the New York-based designer unveiled his namesake jewelry label with an intimate presentation at his Upper West Side home.

Seidler currently serves as Gabriela Hearst’s design director for jewelry, and his stacked resume also boasts positions at Chloé, Ralph Lauren, Acne Studios and Tiffany & Co., among others. For Seidler’s debut 12-piece collection, the designer turned to his three children (whom he shares with his husband, Coach’s Creative Director Stuart Vevers) for inspiration.

The label’s fawn motif — which also doubles as its logo — is inspired by Seidler’s youngest daughter, Fawn, and shows up in the collection across brooches, pearl drop earrings and tassel necklaces. Named for Seidler’s son, River, a toy car necklace crafted in 18K gold and set with Austrian crystals immortalizes the moment River gifted his father the toy for good luck while designing this collection in Italy. The statement pendant’s all-gold coating also invokes the spirit of an Art Deco scarab, per the brand’s website. And yes, the wheels are fully functional.

Functionality sits at the heart of Seidler’s jewelry assortment: For example, its “transformer” earrings offer seven different ways to wear them. This construction reflects Seidler’s architectural background, as the dangling earrings are engineered to be easily converted into smaller pendants or studs. Seidler came up with this idea by watching his mom friends remove their earrings when the accessories began tugging their earlobes down, the designer told Fashionista at his presentation. This convertible concept continues into the label’s reversible necklaces, which feature a gem and a metal side for versatile styling.

With prices ranging from $150 to $790, the collection also includes bow-shaped brooches, ribbon ear cuffs, barrettes, a collar necklace and more. Seidler’s debut jewelry offering is available in limited quantities now on seidler.co, with the full collection launching in November.

Emily Dawn Long Introduces 'Southern Cleavage' for Spring 2027

For her New York Fashion Week debut this weekend, Emily Dawn Long summoned her community of cool downtown acolytes to Bridges, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Chinatown, where guests escaped the heat with refreshing glasses of lemonade, branded boxes of popcorn and an enthralling movie (well, short film): “The Crack of Dawn.”

“It’s fun to do something during September Fashion Week. I do men’s and women’s wear, so it’s a good opportunity to get my community around to celebrate,” Long told Fashionista. “And then I’m a big movie buff, so I just wanted to make something that’s a part of my world and bring it into everyone else’s view.”

Directed by Mayan Toledano and written by Paige Elkington, the “offbeat, present-day heist” stars Meadow Walker, Sydney Lemmon (Love Story, The Drama), Terrence O’Connor, Nico Geiger, Delar Gaston and Luca Apple as models and “unqualified theves,” per Long — all wearing Long’s Spring 2027 collection as they navigate theft and downtown New York in style.

“It was really fun to work on because while I was building the collection, I was simultaneously character building,” she said. “It was like costume design meets character building.”

The film’s punny title nods not only to Long’s name, but also to a prominent design detail within the collection: very, very low-cut backs highlighting what the designer cleverly calls “southern cleavage”: “EDL, a Georgia native, reroutes cleavage south, the cut falling not at the chest but along the hip and lower back, a reveal relocated rather than removed,” read the show notes.

As Long has build a name for herself over the last couple of years — she opened an appointment-only showroom/studio space on Chrystie St. in 2025 — it was without a NYFW presence or adherence to the fashion calendar. She releases her viral screen-printed vintage T-shirts, playful accessories, punchy cocktail dresses, men’s trousers and everything in between whenever they’re ready to be sold. Now, she is a finalist for the 2026 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, which typically requires some sort of September event previewing a “traditional” collection. For Emily Dawn Long, that means about 12 looks where pieces range from a vintage-looking graphic tee to a metallic “crack”-baring gown.

According to Long, the brand itself hasn’t changed based on any new attention from the industry establishment, but it’s clearly grown.

“I think this is just a testament to my community and what I’ve built and just that it’s getting a little bit bigger. But everyone that helped me make this and everyone that was in the film is a friend and a homie and I’m still making clothes for them,” she said. “For example, Sydney Lemmon, who’s in the film, [her] dress could be for the Oscars or the Emmys, but then everyone else here is wearing a hat. You know what I mean?”

Two things are definitively new for the brand for Spring 2027: prints and a shoe. But beyond new categories, Emily Dawn Long is also gaining visibility in new markets.

“The brand is rooted and based in New York, but I don’t think it stops there. I sell to L.A., Japan, Australia and London every single day, multiple times a day. So it’s getting out there,” she shared. Speaking of L.A., she’s currently working with the owner of Kansas City boutique Mergers on a new retail concept set to open in October. “It’s funny, people think that I’m an L.A. brand when they see it visually,” she noted. “The girls in L.A. are very excited for us to get over there.”

Ella Mae's NYFW Debut Draws Upon Maximalist Style Icons Marie Antoinette and Snooki

What do Marie Antoinette and Snooki have in common? A penchant for maximalism that served as the inspiration for designer Ella Mae’s New York Fashion Week debut collection.

For Spring 2027, designer Ella Mae Jepsen was inspired by two of her recent obsessions: Antoinette’s opulent closet and “Y2K trashy Jersey Shore club ‘fits” — an obvious pairing. “I took those two muses, met them together, and we got this sandy, beachy — but also kind of hot girl, indulgent and decadent rebel girl,” Jepsen told Fashionista after the show.

The runway presentation opened with a series of 18th-century silhouettes reimagined in contemporary fabrics, growing more visually striking as the collection progressed into looks awash in punchy pinks and greens. That old/new fusion can be seen throughout the collection, via low-rise capri pants laced up corset-style and an off-the-shoulder T-shirt that reads “Earth Our Mother, take care.” Jepsen also wove in plenty of peek-a-boo moments throughout the collection: “When I was backstage and heard the crowd go crazy because her ass was out, I mean, that was really exciting to hear,” the designer said.

“That rebel girl is also someone who fights for the Earth, because that’s what Ella Mae is about,” she added, as the brand’s “earth-first” philosophy extends from her concentration in nature, culture and sustainability studies while studying apparel design at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In a more tongue-in-cheek way, Jepsen wrote in the show notes: “Save the Earth because it is the only place you can buy lipstick.”

The collection’s accessories include large wraparound sunglasses, ruffled garters and the occasional crowning feather. “Once you get a closer look at things, you’ll see our thin strapping, beautiful fabrics and lots of weaving,” Jepsen said. The designer also experimented with metal casting, a process that involved creating a detailed mold of a peace sign, a common motif throughout the looks.

Bob Mackie Dies at 87

The fashion industry just lost one of its greats: Iconic fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie passed away on Monday. He was 87. (This certainly wasn’t the news we wanted to hear during New York Fashion Week.)

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today,” his team posted on his Instagram page. “He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”

A Los Angeles native, Mackie began his career in costume design, working under designers like Jean Louis and Edith Head. But it was only a matter of time before he became a household name himself: In 1962, he met Cher when she guest-starred on “The Carol Burnett Show” (where he worked at the time), and he eventually began designing gowns for her.

He outfitted her on “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour,” “Cher” and “The Sonny and Cher Show,” winning several Emmys and a Tony in the process; and designed extravagant gowns for her red carpet events — including the infamous “naked dress” she sported at the 1974 Met Gala. In 2019, he spoke to Fashionista about his decades-long partnership with the singer: “Every time [Cher] wore one of those get-ups, it would be in the paper the next day — all over the country,” he reflected. “Then for years [after], when they talk about red carpet, they’d print [one of her looks] and they’d either hate it or love it or whatever. But it wasn’t fashion. It was like, ‘look at me!'”

But Cher wasn’t Mackie’s only client — he became a go-to for other Hollywood megastars, including Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. His work has continued to be embraced by the new generation of stars — Zendaya and Miley Cyrus have pulled from his archives — and fashion collectors have spent thousands buying his pieces at auction.

Mackie’s groundbreaking looks have forever made their mark in the fashion history books and his legacy will never be forgotten.

Steven Kolb Gets Physical With PETA Protestors, Street Style Goes Casual and Everything Else You Need to Know About NYFW So Far

Monday technically marks day five of the official September New York Fashion Week calendar, meaning there are still plenty of shows to go — but a whole lot happened in those first four days. CFDA President Steven Kolb got physical with PETA activists, the street style crowd decided to dress down and lots of designers made their NYFW debuts.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up Fashionista’s coverage of everything worth knowing about the Spring 2027 shows so far.

Patricio Campillo Designed a Jacket Made From Bacteria for Spring 2027

For Spring 2027, Campillo began in media res. My fellow literature nerds may recognize the Latin term from high school English class, but rather than referencing a story that drops the reader right into the middle of the plot, designer Patricio Campillo is sartorially reflecting on “something that happens in the becoming.”

“It’s an object that is conceptualized in the middle of a process of something else,” Campillo told Fashionista ahead of his Spring 2027 runway show, titled “In Media Res,” on Sunday. “So this comes from the idea of nostalgia, of trying to freeze certain moments that I find beautiful.”

And what, you may ask, does the designer find beautiful? A sunset melting into the horizon, immortalized in a solar-inspired color palette of golden yellows, burnt oranges and bright reds. A strategically draped garment, or a surprising composition of a single piece that looks like two separate constructions. “The inspiration is to make those moments that look unintentional, intentional,” Campillo said.

Previously, Campillo channeled most of his creativity through sketching, but now, on-model fittings have emerged as his design playground. These in-person meetings offer a chance to see how designs interact with the human body, which can lead to an unexpected fabric shift or layering choice. These shifting proportions are now preserved throughout the label’s latest collection, which includes a skirt mirroring the appearance of a blazer wrapped around the model’s waist, backwards denim tops and double-layered pants. Plus, Campillo is also embracing innovation: The final look — a red textural jacket and trousers — may seem like a full leather set, but it’s actually biologically derived polymer produced by bacteria.

“To me, one of the most important resources to create the brand has been self-reference,” Campillo said. “Through self-reference, you’re able to evolve without necessarily changing the DNA or the identity [of the brand].” The designer arrived to this conclusion, he said, by studying isolated communities in Mexico and how they evolve their traditions over time. By applying this thinking to Campillo’s design process, the brand codes remain constant throughout the seasons, yet the designer explores new techniques and interpretations to continually build upon his past work.

The designer routinely references charro culture, which was on display in his Spring 2027 collection’s fitted jackets, statement belt buckles and fringe-adorned pants. This season, Campillo also dives deeper into its signature horsehair detailing (which is dyed using vegetable pigments) via ruffled collars, elongated skirts, baseball caps and neckties.

Grace Ling's Spring 2027 Collection Explores 'Oddities'

“I found myself thinking about how there are a lot of standards of how women should dress, and we need to be feminine and not too masculine,” Grace Ling told Fashionista backstage after her Spring 2027 show. “Even on social media, we’ve [normalized] being in a ‘feminine’ or ‘masculine’ era. It got to a point where I was so frustrated, and all this conversation is so silly to me.”

That irritation was the starting part for her latest collection, titled “Oddities.” It explores the duality between “two things at odds,” such as masculinity versus femininity or sensuality versus strength. “I wanted to show that you can be both at the same time,” Ling said.

This translates into a lineup where polarizing concepts harmonize: There’s a corseted mini dress (a feminine silhouette) made from (traditionally masculine) suiting fabric; draped gowns with sharp lines; and a skirt suit with flowy movement. Grace Ling is known for its statement-making sculptural pieces, and while the collection includes sculpted elements, it is noticeably more commercially friendly than in past seasons.

Ling’s two favorite pieces are the opening and closing looks (the only two couture outfits): The former is inspired by Adam & Eve, with the model wearing a sculpted leaf-motif top and skirt while holding an apple. “I wanted to start the show to set the tone of the allure of finding something so beautiful that can also be harmful,” Ling explained. “I wanted to explore the danger of beauty.” Meanwhile, the finale look comprises a sculpted raven-shaped top attached to a white draped skirt.

“I do believe this is our best collection to date,” Ling said. “The [clothing] quality is better, the seams are better, the tailoring is better. I really wanted to push myself with this collection.”

If James Bond Were a Woman, She'd Wear Sergio Hudson Spring 2027

Each season, designer Sergio Hudson pays homage to a powerful female figure. In the past, he’s referenced Aretha Franklin, Cruella de Vil and Jacqueline Broyer from the 1992 film “Boomerang.” For Spring 2027, he was inspired by James Bond — if he were a woman.

“The starting point for this collection was James Bond reversed, where the woman is the agent and the man is the ingenue being chased by her,” he told Fashionista backstage ahead of the show. “You’ll see a lot of strong images of women in the show who are very sexy, powerful and have ‘I’ll take control of this’ [energy].”

This results in a fall proposal full of jumpsuits with plunging necklines, see-through, fitted dresses and hand-draped chiffon gowns. Tailoring — a Sergio Hudson signature — is ever-present, taking shape in bold-hued, monochromatic skirt suits. A standout look is a red chiffon dress, a piece “that has my heart right now,” Hudson said.

“We’re taking the Sergio Hudson woman into another decade,” Hudson added. “This is our 10-year anniversary, and our last show was a retrospective that elevated our classic woman. This season, I wanted to really move her forward and into a new direction.”

Sandy Liang Does Precious Practicality for Spring 2027

A pastel castle playhouse fit for a Polly Pocket-sized princess greeted guests at Sandy Liang’s Spring 2027 runway show on Sunday afternoon. While the candy-colored fortress felt right at home for the girlhood-inspired label, this season’s collection is taking Sandy Liang’s fantasy world into a new realm: the great outdoors.

For Spring 2027, Sandy Liang welcomes a sense of play through a soccer-inspired trompe l’oeil skirt, dolphin-print funnel-neck jackets and ruffled track pants. Per the show notes written by journalist Nicolaia Rips, Liang explores “the dream of functionality, the excitement of getting dolled up to run around and the joys of modularity.” Indeed, the collection feels like a whimsical take on the childhood joy of running around outside until the streetlights came on.

It incorporates elements of gorp-core — an aesthetic that merges outdoor utility with streetwear — via tactical fanny packs covered in pockets and backpack-inspired tops. Of course, this softened take on sport utility is rife with Sandy Liang signatures (otherwise known as “princess details”), including ruffles upon ruffles, oversized ribbons and bow-adorned…everything. Lace detailing, which shows up in midi-length round skirts and a mixed-media sweatshirt, was finished with clear paillettes to add a touch of shimmer as the garments move. Ballerina-esque tutus, polka-dot bra tops, sequined knee-length skirts and mini dresses round out the collection.

Accompanying the Sandy Liang-ified sportswear is a romantic accessories assortment of wide headbands and pocket-embellished handbags. The nostalgic ode to play even extends to footwear via slip-on mules reminiscent of plastic play heels, white patent-leather ballet wedges and bunny flats (with gemstone eyes!).

“It’s technical dressing filtered through fantasy, practicality made precious, for the girl who lives in a fairytale, whose home team is Versailles,” the show notes read.

NYFW Showgoers Get Casual for the Spring 2027 Shows

“Model off duty” looks — laid-back, I-just-threw-this-on outfits often consisting of jeans and a T-shirt — are a ubiquitous staple of fashion week street style. But this season at the Spring 2027 shows in New York City, it seemed the entire fashion community collectively decided to say, “Fuck it,” and dress down. (To be fair, early September is notoriously hot and humid in NYC, and jorts really are a practical garment.)

Showgoers swapped heels for sensible flats, loafers, ballet sneakers, low-profile trainers, thong sandals and all manner of boots (cowboy, construction, Chelsea — you name it). Breezy skirts, oversized Bermuda shorts, baggy jeans rolled down at the waist, denim skirts and, yes, jorts served as the grounding focal points for most looks. Graphic T-shirts, ribbed tank tops and easy button-downs were popular top choices.

This laissez-faire approach to personal style extended to showgoers’ beauty choices, too: The most-worn looks included tousled waves, natural curls, center parts and low ponytails, usually appearing in combination with no-makeup makeup.

Dauphinette's Spring 2027 Show Finds Beauty in Returning to Itself

On Saturday night, Dauphinette hosted its Spring 2027 show inside Genesis House, marking a return for the brand as an alum of the CFDA x Genesis House AAPI Design + Innovation Grant it won in 2025. For inspiration, Founder and Designer Olivia Cheng turned to the idea of the mondegreen — a phrase so often misheard that the mishearing takes on a life of its own. “A mondegreen is a lyric, a sentence or a phrase that is written as one thing but misheard or misinterpreted as something else,” Cheng told Fashionista post-show.

In the collection notes, Cheng reflected heavily on the brand’s inception, framing the line as a memoir of the past, and wrote, “Lady Mondegreen feels like the inevitable long-format exploration of the between-worlds feeling…It’s all the trappings of day-one Dauphinette.”

Naturally, the brand’s signature bread bag made its appearance, tassels and all, alongside other familiar motifs: wandering beetles, structured drop-waist skirts, jewel-encrusted dresses and garments heavy with button embellishments.

But this season, Dauphinette’s flower signature reappeared in more evolved forms: in painted flowers brushed on through impasto techniques and a brand-new fabric unveiled for the first time.

“We developed a new pattern called Florganza,” Cheng said of the label’s newest textile innovation. “I’ve been working with flowers for a long time, and finally found a way to make the fabric, in a way that could include full pressed flowers, and a lot of them, but also still be pleated or manipulated as pretty much any other textile without cracking the flowers or breaking them.”

“Florganza,” used in three looks in the collection, infused pressed flowers between semi-transparent, opaque silk. According to the collection’s bill of materials, the process took 44 hours of hand-placing flowers sourced from local growers and the garden of Cheng’s mother.

For this collection, Cheng said the prominent difference from seasons past was restraint and discipline. “I’m not very traditional, and so I feel that this time we took more of an intentional approach, not just with each individual garment, but of the presentation and collection as a whole.”

Amari Carter Took NYFW Guests to Sunday Service for Its Debut Presentation

When it’s New York Fashion Week, most showgoers don’t have the luxury of waking up and heading to church for Sunday service. (Unless you’re lucky enough to have a rare stretch of free time, to which I say, “Amen.”) Instead, we put on our best dress, chug a cup of coffee and pray the delayed subway doesn’t put us behind schedule

So it was quite a surprise to walk into Amari Carter’s debut NYFW presentation at The Standard Hotel and be greeted by the sounds of a gospel choir singing. For Spring 2027, the designer drew inspiration from her childhood days attending church with her grandmother. The resulting lineup takes the idea of “Sunday best” dressing and subverts it through sexier silhouettes.

“I took the church [style], and reversed it and put my spin on it,” Carter told Fashionista backstage ahead of the presentation. “Growing up, I had to be conservative — seen but not heard. These pieces are my ‘woe is me’ moment.”

As part of her design process, Carter pushed herself to play around with tailoring and softened suiting. Take, for example, a soft pink skirt suit that hugs the body, and a matching white cropped blazer top and mini skirt. One of Carter’s favorite pieces is an open-back, halter-neck apron blazer.

“I hope this [debut] introduces our details, the minor, intricate tailoring I’m introducing now and my vibe,” she said.

CFDA CEO Steven Kolb Gets Physical With PETA Activists at the COS Fall 2026 Show

Drama came to New York Fashion Week on Sunday at the COS Fall 2026 runway show, where CFDA CEO Steven Kolb took it upon himself to physically restrain multiple PETA activists attempting to storm the runway in protest of the use of wool in fashion. At least five representatives from the animal advocacy group disrupted the presentation, with several of them making it onto the runway holding signs reading, “Sheep beaten and bloodied for wool. Don’t buy it.” Security peacefully escorted most of them from the venue (a spacious floor in lower Manhattan’s WSA).

In one corner, though, Kolb held two protestors back from the runway, ripping their signs away, putting his hands over their mouths, and in one case, wrapping his legs around a female activist to restrain her. Fashionista happened to be seated nearby and captured the below footage of the events unfolding.

Even though it’s not a member of the CFDA or even an American fashion label — its parent company is Sweden-based H&M Group, and its lead designer Karin Gustafsson is also Swedish — COS was one of NYFW’s major shows this season. The presentation drew celebrities like John Boyega, Sharon Stone, Michelle Williams and Luptia Nyong’o, as well as fashion notables like Jenna Lyons.

Ahead of the September shows in New York, PETA issued a press release saying it would “turn up the heat” on H&M Group over its use of wool. “PETA is calling out [H&M] for duping consumers with ‘responsible wool’ claims when a recent PETA Asia video exposé into a NATIVA-certified South African wool operation tied to H&M Group’s supply chain revealed workers kicking and stomping on terrified sheep, dragging them by their legs, and leaving them with gaping wounds after crude shearing,” read the PETA statement.

Representatives from COS and the CFDA did not immediately respond to Fashionista’s request for comment.

UPDATE: Monday, Sept. 14, 5:27 p.m.: The Board of the CFDA issued a revised version of its previous statement to press: “The CFDA takes this matter very seriously, and as a result, Mr. Kolb will be on leave pending a full review. The CFDA as an organization is committed to working with dissenting voices to find commonality and is engaged in efforts to move the American fashion industry forward while upholding the values of our membership, including respectful engagement with differing viewpoints.”

UPDATE: Monday, Sept. 14, 4:45 p.m.: On Monday afternoon, Steven Kolb posted to his personal Instagram stories that he will be “taking a voluntary leave from work and meeting with a professional to ensure it never happens again.” He also issued an apology, writing, “My actions were wrong, and I am deeply sorry. I take full responsibility for my actions. I apologize to [the PETA protestors] and to everyone who witnessed the incident.” Kolb also stated that he has accepted an invitation from PETA to meet and discuss their concerns. “I hope to have the opportunity to apologize in person to the two individuals who did not deserve that treatment,” he wrote. UPDATE: Sunday, Sept. 13, 5:02 p.m.: PETA issued a press release regarding the matter, stating: “Moments ago, two PETA supporters were assaulted by the CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Steven Kolb, during a protest over wool on the COS runway. Kolb violently grabbed one protester, held her to the floor, wrapped a leg around her, and covered her mouth and nose with his hands as she shouted, ‘Sheep bloodied and beaten for wool!’ Kolb also shoved and grabbed a second PETA member who was filming the catwalk takeover and covered his face with his hand.”

PETA also stated that it is filing a police report and plans to pursue criminal charges.

“Today’s actions show how top people in fashion use violence to silence people who expose how sheep are beaten, bloodied, and violently killed for scarves and sweaters,” PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk said in the release.

Prabal Gurung Frees Women From the Constraints of Corsetry for Spring 2027

At the heart of Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2027 collection, entitled “Ray of Light,” lies a sense of freedom. “Not freedom as a slogan or anything like that, freedom to inhabit your body and to have a sovereignty over it,” Gurung told Fashionista backstage ahead of his runway show on Saturday. This season, the designer is freeing the Prabal Gurung woman from a corset’s constriction in favor of gauzy gowns and loose-fitting cotton sateen dresses.

For Spring 2027, the designer began by reflecting on different women a world apart from one other: the Nepali women visiting a dhunge dhara (a public stone tap for bathing and washing clothes) and a female Brooklynite dancing with a feather boa at a Zero Chill rave. Though these women may seem completely different on paper, Gurung recalled noticing the raver, who was “completely abandoned in her own joy,” donning the marigolds and jasmines that Nepali women often wear, and something clicked. “I was like, my goodness, two different places, New York and Nepal, but the same feeling,” he said.

The opening look — a strapless white dress knotted around the hips — captures the sense of nonchalance Gurung was chasing. “It almost looks like she’s wrapped in bedsheets,” he said. “It holds her perfectly. It doesn’t confine her.” A parade of elegant floor-length dresses followed, with some designs featuring sensual cutouts in the back. Marigold and jasmine motifs fill the collection, showing up in an intricately beaded jacket, three-dimensional embroidered dresses and breezy organza chiffons.

“I’m trying to release the woman that I’m designing for from all the corsets and everything,” Gurung said. “There are a few of them, but [the inspiration is] just this ability for her to feel at ease, feel sensual.”

At Tibi's Spring 2027 Show, Dolly Parton's Spirit Lives On

For Spring 2027, Tibi Founder and Creative Director Amy Smilovic traveled south for inspiration — to Nashville, specifically. She didn’t go the predictable route (think: cowboy hats and chaps), though; rather, the designer wanted to observe “people who were really comfortable dressing like outsiders but not caring,” she told Fashionista backstage ahead of the show. “Then, we realized once we got to Nashville that we were the outsiders, which set up a really interesting way of thinking of who’s in and who’s out. We really just wanted to embrace the absolute ease and spirit of the place.”

The collection’s opening look — a relaxed-fit blazer, paired with slouchy dark-wash jeans and snake-print cowboy boots — exemplifies this approach. Button-down tops with distinctive yokes, gingham-print jackets and metal-tipped collared shirts continue the theme of Southern ease without sacrificing Tibi’s signature minimalist aesthetic and pragmatism.

“We were really interested in the visionaries who started the Grand Ole Opry and Dolly Parton and all of these individuals who were very comfortable just being themselves wherever they are,” Smilovic added.

One of the designer’s favorite pieces is a scarf skirt featuring her drawing of Nashville. “Tibi is about to have its 30th birthday next spring, and the scarf skirt is what launched my brand,” she explained. “It’s a nice way to reminisce.”

Another notable ode to Parton during the presentation? Her song “I Will Always Love You,” which played as models strutted for the finale walk.

Altuzarra Gets a 'Vibe Shift,' Plays With Gender Codes for Spring 2027

At Altuzarra’s Spring 2027 show, held Saturday morning at the historic Woolworth Building in lower Manhattan, the book waiting for guests on their seats (a longstanding NYFW tradition for the brand) was “Casa Susanna: The Story of the First Trans Network in the United States, 1959–1968” by Isabelle Bonnet and Sophie Hackett. Casa Susanna, a retreat in the Catskills, was also the subject of a recent Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition that caught the attention of Joseph Altuzarra.

“[It’s] about a retreat in the 1960s where men would go and dress as women and be their authentic selves. And I just loved the joy in those images, the freedom,” he said backstage after the show. “It reminded me of the naïveté of being a child during the summer.”

This spirit became the foundation of the collection, which comprised many ’60s-inspired silhouettes and details, but also conveyed a movement between masculinity and femininity throughout. “There was a central tension that was really about a traditional masculine 1960s working man’s wardrobe,” Altuzarra explained. “And then, on the other end, this idea of very overt, glamorous femininity, and how those met and the friction that it created and the tension that it created.”

While some looks veered more masculine and others more feminine, several combined elements of both: menswear-y shirts unbuttoned to reveal a bra top or paired with a silk skirt, Steve McQueen-esque Harrington jackets worn with voluminous circle skirts. Meanwhile, unfastened belts, unfinished hems and seams, cardigans worn askew and straps falling off shoulders imbued the collection with a sense of, as Altuzarra put it, “undoneness” and “patchworkiness” that felt different for the designer.

“There was definitely a little bit of a vibe shift for me [this season],” he said, although part of it was achieved by looking back at his earlier designs. “We were looking at a lot of the embroidery and print and silhouettes from those past collections and brought them back and amped them up,” he continued. “I also went back to a lot of silhouettes that I had done in the past that I hadn’t done in a long time, like more of a knee length, more of a slit as well, having more texture, more layering.”

The result was a collection that felt less tight or controlled than past outings, and instead more liberated, authentic and expressive — fueled by the spirit of Casa Susanna and its summer visitors.

Jamie Haller Makes Her New York Fashion Week Debut

Jamie Haller didn’t need a New York Fashion Week presence, or the approval of establishments like the CFDA, to build a cult following around her timeless, quietly stylish (and comfortable) Italian-made footwear, which she did years ago all the way from Los Angeles. But after launching apparel (which she’d previously designed for other brands) in 2024, the establishment approached.

Haller is part of the 2026 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and thus made the trip to New York for her first fashion week presentation, welcoming many of those cult fans alongside the industry figures involved in her CVFF selection — including Aurora James, Steven Kolb, Eva Chen, Christopher John Rogers and Chloe Malle. (Haller even had to interrupt our interview to walk Malle through her collection; I understood.)

“It is my first New York Fashion Week doing a presentation,” Haller said. “There’s just more attention with the Fashion Fund… It seemed like a big opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

So far, Haller has enjoyed the process; and if she feels pressure to take home a prize when the winner’s announced in October, she didn’t show it. “It’s super fun,” she said. “What I’m excited for is mentorship, the possibility of mentoring with somebody who’s built a business in a bigger way.” Haller’s current goals are incresing brand awareness and expanding internationally.

At the presentation, there was something special about seeing models — who were so diverse and unassuming, they were almost indistinguishable from the guests — wear and move around in head-to-toe Jamie Haller looks. It confirmed that, even though she launched her brand with shoes, it was always meant to encompass a full wardrobe. The numbers confirm it, too: Just two years after the expansion, her business is split 50/50 between footwear and apparel.

“It’s just been an amazing opportunity to tell a fuller story and to really show all the experience I have,” she said.

Simkhai Plays With Primary Colors, 'Jelly'-Coated Denim and Elaborate Lace Gowns for Spring 2027

For Jonathan Simkhai, looking toward the future and celebrating innovation doesn’t necessarily mean leaving the past behind. The designer, who debuted his Spring 2027 collection on Friday at the Phillips auction house on Park Ave., challenged his team to “use new materials and new ways to take them forward” this season. But he also turned to vintage references as sources of inspiration, he told Fashionista in a post-show backstage interview. “It’s looking back, but then also looking forward,” he said.

To that end, Simkhai drew on design inspiration from the ’70s and ’90s, but “then [re-imagined] them with more modern fabrics and new silhouettes.” To modernize the classic denim jacket he had on his inspiration board, for example, the designer used a version of the fabric with a “jelly coating” that lent a glossy sheen to the material. “Familiar materials become less immediately recognizable as they are coated, fringed, combined and reworked,” the show notes elaborated

“This season, I really wanted to push the design team and the atelier to just really reinvent some of the fabrics and… [find] that tension between innovation and craftsmanship,” Simkhai said.

The collection also plays with neutrals and bold primary colors in equal measure. But when asked what dictated which looks he rendered in reds, blues and yellows versus which ones in black and white, Simkhai attributed it to his general “creative process” rather than any specific intentionality.

Two standout looks from the collection, according to the designer, are the voluminous, custom three-dimensional guipure lace dresses with billowing, voluminous silhouettes (one white, one blue). Each garment includes 1.6 million stitches, he noted, adding “they’re all completely seamless…the artwork is kind of concealing the shape and the volume; it’s all embroidered as kind of a panel. So it was quite nuanced figuring that out and engineering the lace and the artwork to be so beautifully placed.”

Only Kim Shui Would Hold a Peacock-Inspired Show in an Alleyway

Last season, Kim Shui staged her New York Fashion Week show on a boat ride along the Hudson River. This time around, she brought showgoers to a Manhattan alleyway. Clearly, those are two very different settings (one of which has more rats), but both are iconic representations of New York City.

For her Spring 2027 collection, Shui drew inspiration from various layers of performance. As she told Fashionista backstage after the show, “Being in New York, using the street as the runway, is performance itself.” The collection’s starting point was Peking Opera, a traditional Chinese performance art known for its expressive, dramatic performances and bright, elaborate costumes. This translates into the looks through the use of feathers — a signature trim seen in traditional Peking Opera performer costumes.

The feathers then led Shui to draw inspiration from birds of paradise (the animals, not the plants) and peacocks. Sculpted headwear, Qipaos in saturated hues, embroidered matching sets and corseted gowns permeate the lineup. This is by far one of Kim Shui’s most dramatic collections yet. “I wanted to play with a little bit more drama,” she said. “I wanted to be more experimental and out there.” But even as Shui challenged herself to embrace drama, she still exercised plenty of restraint, which kept the collection from veering into costume territory.

“Ancient forms of spectacle and natural forms of beauty are not confined to the past; they continue to exist around us, refracted through the city,” the show notes read. “Across nature, theater, fashion and the city, the collection finds a shared language in the ways we adorn, transform and reveal ourselves.”

A Haunting Marilyn Monroe Quote Inspired Christian Cowan for Spring 2027

In July 1962, Marilyn Monroe said in an interview with Life Magazine, “People I like. The public scares me.” That haunting sentiment sparked the idea behind Christian Cowan’s Spring 2027 collection, which the designer unveiled Friday afternoon at New York City’s The Glasshouse.

“I thought that quote summarized the relationship of glamorous icons with the media and the darkness, but also the beauty of interpersonal connection,” Cowan told Fashionista backstage ahead of the show. The 32-look lineup explores the construction of Old Hollywood feminine identities, per the show notes: “The collection considers the actress suspended between woman and apparition, private self and public character, not as a passive object of fantasy, but as an active participant in its creation,” they read.

Cowan channeled the Old Hollywood cinematic theme into intentional fabric choices and construction techniques. For the latter, many garments use vintage fabrics from the 1920s through the 1950s. One standout piece is a dress made from a 1940s wedding veil. Composition-wise, Cowan played with lace, crystal and corsetry.

“I hope [people] are transported to a cinematic world and forget about their problems a little bit and just enjoy beauty,” Cowan said of his intention behind the presentation.

Jane Wade Is Still Outside for Spring 2027

Building upon Jane Wade’s Fall 2026 collection, which translated the brand’s corporate-core aesthetic into an outdoorsy retreat, the designer is opting to spend some more time basking in the sun for Spring 2027.

“Last season, we were hiking the Great Mount expedition to ‘The Summit,’ and this season, that glacial melt is trickling off, running down through waterfall and into the creek for ‘The Riverbed’,” Wade told Fashionista at her Brooklyn studio ahead of her runway show on Friday afternoon.

Jane Wade’s Spring 2027 collection, entitled “The Riverbed,” dives further into nature-inspired design details, but this time with an emphasis on aquatic and amphibious references. (“I really wanted it to feel like spending the day at the river in the sun with your friends,” Wade said.) The collection mixes “everyday office fabrics” with nylon and ripstop, while also exploring the finishings and treatments seen in sport materials.

At the label’s runway show, which was set under the beating sun at Pier 64, the collection’s outdoorsy starting point was on full display via backpacking gear, branded water bottles and gingham prints. (Plus, some models even went barefoot.) Drawing from Wade’s Pacific Northwest upbringing and her time spent in the open air, the collection also featured cargo pants, funnel-neck jackets and a tent-like umbrella (a.k.a. a pale girl’s dream accessory). However, Jane Wade isn’t abandoning its workwear beginnings; it still embraced button-up tops, loose-fitting trousers and corseted silhouettes.

“I think this season, especially spring, is a really fun time to leave the office,” Wade said. “It’s a fun time to leave into the greatest expanse of outdoors. Touching grass is a big theme of what we’re talking about.”

One of the collection’s standout designs (and one of Wade’s personal favorites) is a strapless alligator-print dress with sculptural, protruding hips — but don’t fret, it’s not actually alligator skin. In pursuit of capturing the reptile’s scaly texture, Wade developed a new technique to emboss cowhide to feel like alligator skin. It also underwent three separate passes of screen printing to achieve its aquatic sheen.

“It feels like a really fun place when you arrive creatively where you feel like people can identify what your branding looks like based on your imagery and your color treatment,” Wade said. “And now that I feel that we’ve really built that foundation for the brand, now it’s a really fun time to play and experiment with different layers of new treatments, introducing a new feeling to the brand codes.”

Aknvas References Another Hans Christian Andersen Tale for Spring 2027

Aknvas presented its Spring 2027 runway show on Friday in a whirlwind of three acts: “Eleven Shirts,” “Forest Nymphs” and the climactic closing, “Wild Swans.”

“I decided to name the collection ‘Swans Before Innocence,'” Founder and Creative Director Christian Juul Nielsen told Fashionista in a backstage interview. The story unfolded as a chronological saga, beginning with classic shirting, continuing into utility wear and then culminating in sweeping high-low skirts — inspired, for the second season in a row, by a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. This, time, it was “The Wild Swans.”

The story follows a young princess with 11 brothers who are transformed into swans; the only way to save them? For the princess to sew together 11 shirts out of stinging nettles, all while staying silent, unable to speak until the spell is broken. Hence, the first act of the show incorporated mixed-striped cotton shirt sleeves, in some instances wrapping around the garments’ waists. Themed details like embroidered swans and florals appear throughout, a reminder of the spell to be broken.

The second act of the show melded utility with fantasy, drawing on the moment a prince discovers the princess in the forest and falls in love with her. “The forest finds its way into the wardrobe,” read the show notes, describing this moment. For the collection, this translates to blue utilitarian jackets and sculpted denim. Nielsen also brought in florist Putnam Flowers to design bountiful floral arrangements that sprung from the bags models carried, a literal nod to the enchanted forest’s greenery. “She goes to the graveyard to pick up flowers in the night; it’s why we had all the flowers in the show that [the models] carry,” Nielsen explained.

For the third and final act, hysteria breaks out that the princess is a witch — until her brothers arrive in swan form to save her. Nielsen explained the moment: “The swans come on top of [the princess], and she throws the shirts on them,” effectively breaking the curse. The collection closed dramatically with asymmetrical-cut lace gowns drawn up with ribbons and ruffles. By the final look — a black high-low skirt and panel top — the spell was broken, and the story was complete. As Nielsen put it, “Everyone needs to read books, fairy tales and stories” — and on this runway, he made sure everyone did.

Tory Burch Spring 2027 Offers a Joyful, Colorful Escape From Our Modern Dystopia

Tory Burch has always been generous — and clever — with color. Even her show venues tend to include a strong color story, from Fall 2026’s golden runway, to Spring 2025’s floor-to-ceiling turquoise tile. The backdrop for Spring 2027, shown Thursday night at Isamu Noguchi’s Sunken Garden in lower Manhattan, may have been her boldest yet: A rich burnt orange carpet covered the entire show space encircling the garden, which itself was accented by bright turquoise posts. And when the show began, an even bolder and broader assortment of colors flooded the circular runway.

Unsurprisingly, Burch’s starting point for the collection was all about color. “There was this Venetian slipper where I started and it had so many crazy colors in it,” she said backstage after the show. So many that she’s still having trouble defining them all: “I still haven’t been able to name that green leather and I’m thinking, what color is that green? Because I’ve not really seen that. It’s not mint, it’s not seafoam… So I challenge our team to think of colors that weren’t just available.” Aside from that green, there are purples, corals, reds, yellows and blues (most of which I would also have a hard time naming) all combined within looks: “granny sweaters” with midi skirts, feathered scarves with silk jacquard coats. It was all part of Burch’s ornate exploration of “the psychology of how women pull things together,” per the show notes.

Burch wanted to get a little more experimental this season: Tie-dye, embroidery, beading and metallic thread added more dimension to the already-textured collection. “I wanted everything a bit off kilter, but working,” she explained. “I love a woman’s body and I want her to feel powerful and confident when she wears our clothing, so I thought about color a lot and how clothing can really enhance a mood through color and texture.”

Speaking of mood, the show wasn’t all sunny and cheerful: The soundtrack, which included “The Shining” theme, was more dark than optimistic, but the clothes were there to bring the joy.

“It’s quite dystopian for all of us right now,” Burch said. “So how do you dream and escape? I think you can do that through self-expression.” And great outfits, of course. “I think that we’ve all had to manage through difficult times and look for bright spots,” she continued. “I wanted to challenge myself to think about, what is a bright spot today?”

Sometimes, it’s about letting go and rolling with the punches: At the end of our interview, Burch admitted that the soundtrack only came together three hours prior, and shared that the show’s singular barefoot model was not an artistic choice — she simply hadn’t been given her shoes in time. “My team was upset. I’m like, ‘Barefoot’s the new black!’ You just can’t worry about it.”

Wiederhoeft Imagines a Beautifully Dressed Apocalypse for Spring 2027

If it hadn’t been for the crowd of photographers at the end of the catwalk and sea of phones among the audience capturing video content, you’d think you were in for a theater performance at Wiederhoeft Spring 2027’s presentation, rather than a New York Fashion Week runway show.

As showgoers took their seats at the New York Live Art theatre on Friday afternoon, a giant rendering of a head stood center stage, with four models covered head-to-toe in gray, ruched, figure-hugging dresses slowly walking and posing around it. Then the lights dimmed, and the real show began: The models continued to slowly walk around the statue while two additional models walked in dressed in voluminous ball gowns.

“We meet our society on the last day on Planet Silk,” designer Jackson Wiederhoeft explained of the opening act in a backstage interview. “The reasons are not necessarily known, but we do the generations past, present and future. They are harvesting, collecting and always on the hunt.”

Eventually, the true runway show began, with a glamour-filled lineup (to be expected given Wiederhoeft’s couture-trained roots). The collection hones in on eveningwear and bridal, with back-to-back looks defined by their intricate corsetry, beadwork and lace detailing.

“A lot of what you see here is more hyper-feminine and more girly compared to what we usually do…I really wanted to honor the client this season. Especially with us only doing one collection a year, I really wanted to honor what the client was looking for,” he added.

Closing out the show, a model walked in a cream-hued, shimmering draped gown, holding a (fake) baby. “[The symbolism of the baby] is up for everyone to decide,” he told a group of press.

For Kate Barton Spring 2027, Optimism Looks Like Dog-Printed Tank Tops

From sculptural silhouettes to chrome color palettes, Kate Barton is known for her signature futuristic edge. For Spring 2027, however, the designer’s universe is taking a playful turn with illusion prints, stripes and eye-catching hues. Although Barton has always imbued a sense of whimsy into her namesake label (who could forget her Goldfish Bag?), this collection’s colorful pivot also marks a shift toward expanding her ready-to-wear knitwear offering.

“The inspiration behind this new collection was really building off of our core techniques with the brand, but we added a lot more fun pops of color and some new prints,” Barton told Fashionista ahead of her presentation on Thursday evening. “We did a stripe this season, so I’m really excited to show the use of color and contrast there, and the stripe.”

As far as Kate Barton collections go, the Spring 2027 offering is an explosion of color. Standout styles include a lavender halter neck gown decorated with a sculptural red flower, a butter yellow belted mini dress and colorful coordinating headscarves. The brand’s first exploration of stripes is far from nautical; instead, it delivers a vibrant asymmetrical matching set combining red, yellow, black, green, blue and pink stripes, along with a sequined mini and maxi dress.

“We really just wanted to have a playful, optimistic collection,” Barton added. And what better way to embrace joy than with kitschy illusion prints? For example, a bright orange midi dress displays a printed-on knot detail, while a boxy white T-shirt depicts a striped knit scarf seemingly tied around the model’s neck. Kate Barton’s graphic tank tops also trick the eye into thinking the wearer is toting around a flower basket (or a dog-friendly straw bag).

“My biggest takeaway is I hope that they just find joy from it and notice all the little fun, playful elements because the goal is to bring positivity with this collection,” Barton said regarding her community’s response to the new collection.

As Kallmeyer Grows, Its Commitment to the (Very Chic) Customer Never Wavers

Kallmeyer is coming into its own. It’s been two years since the New York label, helmed by the inimitably cool Daniella Kallmeyer, began showing consistently on the New York Fashion Week schedule, and it was hard not to compare Thursday’s Spring 2027 outing to that first Spring 2025 runway. What’s interesting is that very little has changed about the brand; rather, it’s only grown — beyond its local “IYKYK” status and its tailoring niche.

The new collection had a fresh focus on woven materials and the act of wrapping, and marked the launch of the brand’s instantly covetable first handbag, the Magazine Bag. Shoes are next — following a recent Nike sneaker collaboration. Kallmeyer also now has two flagship stores — one downtown, one uptown — and is looking to expand further. Last year, Kallmeyer was nominated for CFDA American Womenswear Designer of the Year.

The show itself has grown as well: from 2024’s super-intimate runway inside a (albeit stunning) midtown lighting studio, where I felt like I’d somehow infiltrated the most innately stylish female friend group in New York (the sort who turn out to be surprisingly friendly), to 2026’s comparatively sprawling floor of the Ukrainian Institute, where that friend group was a lot bigger, but equally smart and chic.

Nothing inspires Kallmeyer, who started her brand in 2012, more than her clientele — and instead of paid VIPs, that’s who sits in the proverbial front row. It just so happens that Jenna Lyons, Cass Bird, Julianna Marguiles, Celine Song, Janicza Bravo, Abbi Jacobson and Justine Lupe are among them.

“The women who come into my store — that is front row in my mind. And I think what makes Kallmeyer so Kallmeyer is that the front row is not women who we coerced into coming to a fashion show,” she said backstage after the show. “Yes, they’re here to celebrate the big moments, but they are very much here because they are part of the everyday moments.”

But back to the clothes: Kallmeyer was thinking about Hideyuki Oka’s manual “How to Wrap Five Eggs” as well as the work of Columbian textile artist Olga de Amaral, who “manipulates regular materials into these luminescent, beautiful, swirly, glamorous pieces with really rich colors and multiple layers of textures and materials that change directions,” Kallmeyer said. “It was something that I really wanted to try to challenge myself to emulate.” The result is beautifully layered, airy knits that fit in just right with the brand’s signature tailoring.

“We ended up with all of these amazing textiles and techniques and surfaces and materials. “Our challenge was to bring ourselves back to this sense of severity and discipline,” she continued. “That’s where you see the juxtaposition of all these materials and then these very sharp lines.”

But ultimately, it all comes back to the Kallmeyer community. The designer got married three weeks before the show. (“They say if you want to get something done, give it to a busy person,” she joked.) “It goes back to this idea that the clothes are only as good as the situations we put them in,” she explained. “So imagining my friends at events and my own wedding and the places that we want to feel our most sexy or our most elevated or our most casual or our most powerful, that’s the answer I need to find.”

Christian Siriano's Spring 2027 Collection Is One Sexy Fairy Tale

Christian Siriano’s Spring 2027 runway show felt a bit like a fairy tale — and that was the point. The designer said he was inspired by an 18th-century French fairy tale, “The Story of the Queen of the Flowery Isles.”

“The story was romantic in the end, but it starts quite dark and sinister, kind of like an old fairy tale does,” Siriano told Fashionista backstage. “And I think that took you on a journey. So we really started there in this dark, hard place and end[ed] in this world of tulips and brocades and embroideries like a French tapestry that’s come to life.”

The central inspiration was the Queen, described as mysterious and “surrounded by an enchanted world of flowers, beauty, decadence and escape.” The collection took inspiration from the opulence of the French court, with elements of corsetry, dramatic volume, delicate late and ornate embroidery.

Flower motifs appear throughout — in sculptural shapes, cascading ruffles and layers of chiffon — as Siriano wanted to juxtapose restrained 18th-century dress with the wildness of a garden, as if the Queen stepped into the modern day. (One more current touch for the show included crimped hair by stylist Lacy Redway.)

Although there is some of that 18th-century restraint in the clothes, it still may be Siriano’s sexiest collection yet. “I love that it was sexy in the beginning and then ended in this really ethereal, beautiful world,” he said. “I wanted to showcase the body, the silhouette, the figure, celebrate women and how beautiful they are, celebrate men and how gorgeous they are.”

Siriano has another reason to feel proud of the collection: “We did a lot of looks. I made every single piece in this show in New York City, which I think is incredible,” he said.

J.Crew Tapped Beloved Indie Label Eckhaus Latta for Fall's Coziest Collab

Following the success of their first partnership in February of this year, J.Crew once again tapped indie label Eckhaus Latta for a cozy fall collab, the two brands announced on Friday. The reunion “builds upon the overwhelming response to Eckhaus Latta’s interpretation of J.Crew’s signature Rollneck Remix earlier this year,” per a press release.

The new collection, a 27-SKU lineup, spans knitwear, outerwear, shirting, denim and accessories — such as a knit balaclava, brushed cashmere bandana, cashmere opera gloves and calf hair belts — as well as a kids’ version of the Rollneck sweater.

“The inspiration for us was really J.Crew,” designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta said in a press statement. “It is an iconic American brand with a rich heritage. We rummaged through a lot of its catalogs from the ’90s as points of reference. That period was our childhood, so our aesthetics and tastes will always be shaped by it.”

Many of the pieces — including the knits and shirting in particular — are intended to be genderless, as evidenced by accompanying campaign images shot by Luna Conte. The imagery features artists, athletes, musicians and academics (including, in a cheeky detail, a pair of twin models wearing the twin sweater set from the collection).

“This collaboration is a celebration of the expansiveness of American style and the many ways it can be interpreted,” said J.Crew Chief Marketing Officer Julia Collier in a statement. “Great collaborations create new entry points into each brand, and the campaign brings that idea to life through a house party where the J.Crew and Eckhaus Latta communities come together. Everyone is invited to enter the world of the collection, wear it and make it entirely their own.”

Standout pieces include a reversible turtleneck, apron-style halter dress, marled balaclava and convertible army green Barn Jacket, which features a vivid purple lining and detachable vest.

“We wanted to preserve the experimentation, individuality and sense of community that make Eckhaus Latta so distinctive, along with the unpretentious New York energy they bring to clothes designed for how people actually live,” said Olympia Gayot, Creative Director of Women’s and Kids at J.Crew. “The catalogs became a major source of inspiration, revealing an era of the brand that already possessed a little downtown tension. Mike and Zoe pulled that spirit forward through their own perspective, creating a collection that feels unmistakably J.Crew, but unexpected enough to make you look twice.”

Rachel Scott Is Feeling More at Ease at Proenza Schouler — and It Shows

In a full-circle moment, Rachel Scott showed her Spring 2027 collection for Proenza Schouler Thursday at what used to be the Barneys women’s store — famously the very first retailer to carry the brand, then helmed by two recent Parsons graduates: co-founders Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez (now at Loewe).

For her second runway since taking over as creative director last year, Scott was inspired by New York women and the liberties they take when getting dressed. “I see women in the middle of the day with a gown on and it’s totally normal and admissible. And I find that really inspiring,” she shared backstage. Models aptly represented those women as they traversed the venue’s spiral staircase — just as the brand’s early customers likely did circa 2002.

During the show, several looks struck me as being unmistakably Proenza — this was likely heightened by the brand-new PS1 Walker, Scott’s reimagining of the brand’s iconic handbag style, which she designed in collaboration with Reed Krakoff. But the collection as a whole is also very Rachel Scott.

Her strongest outing yet, it artfully spotlights her obsession with materials and deep appreciation for handmade garments. For example, a tiger motif seen in several early looks may look like a print, but is actually something much more complex.

“It’s actually silk in two colors that’s sewn together in an intarsia pattern of the tiger, and then it’s placed, and then it’s bonded, and then it’s made into the garment,” she explained. “Handmade for me is the ultimate luxury. And so everything goes through these multiple layers of hand work and mediation of hand and craft as well as precise technology in garment making.”

Since taking on this role, Scott has always spoken of the brand and its founders with thoughtful reverence, and her sincere efforts to understand the “Proenza Schouler woman” have paid off: In an interview backstage, she explained how last season she was focused on the “essence” and “signifiers” of the brand; and based on Spring 2027, she’s since settled into the role as beautifully as she could. This time, her designs are actually in stores, and feedback from customers and buyers seems to have provided some extra confidence.

During a “miraculous” half hour of free time on Monday (Scott has also been preparing for her brand Diotima’s Spring 2027 show), she ran to Proenza Schouler’s SoHo shop and observed two groups of women shopping: one drawn to Fall 2026’s blue-and-orange Donegal knit tailoring, the other to the collection’s closing printed dresses adorned with fringe and grommets.

“That made me really excited that those were the things they were drawn to. So it just makes me feel a little more at ease,” she said. “There’s a lot of responsibility to taking over someone’s legacy and I want to be respectful, but then also I want to do it good. So I feel a little bit more free.”

Rachel Comey Spring 2027 Celebrates a Female Pro-Wrestler and Chocolate in Your Purse

On Wednesday inside the Judson Memorial Church in Greenwich Village, Rachel Comey celebrated 25 years with a Spring 2027 collection inspired by an unexpected muse: Rosalyn Drexler.

The late artist, playwright, novelist, nightclub singer, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer and professional wrestler (!) had a distinctive presence in New York City’s cultural scene. (And even performed at the Judson in the 1960s.) Comey and her team went into Drexler’s archive and pulled out imagery, writing and ideas to inform the collection. It’s not a literal interpretation of her work, but more so an exploration of her life and legacy through colors, shapes, textures and motifs.

According to press materials, Drexler’s independence, humor and ability to move between different creative disciplines remind Comey of her customers, whom the brand characterizes as “fiercely independent, courageous, fun and good-looking.”

Models came down the runway in vibrant shades of green, with some looks paired with sequin fringe between layers of tulle. These colors came from Drexler’s paintings and photographs, with greens, cobalt blue, lilacs and bold color combinations shown throughout the show.

As a nod to the multi-hyphenate’s wrestling career (under the name Rosa Carlo), championship-belt motifs became coin paillettes on sport-inspired shorts. Drexler’s painting techniques were translated into fabric treatments, and actual ephemera from Drexler’s time at the Judson popped up throughout the collection, printed on bags, silk scarves, T-shirts and shoes. Again, they aren’t literal reproductions of her work, but instead “fragments rearranged,” according to the brand.

The collection’s accessories include sequin fringe carryalls, belt bags and a silver clutch that’s a partnership with chocolate brand, Unreal.

“We’ve got a lot of chocolate in the development office to R&D and figure out how many tiny pieces we can hide in our outfits,” Comey joked backstage. “We like pockets, so we made a chic bag so you can put your bag in another bag filled with chocolates.” The bag features graphic striped cotton lining with colors pulled from Unreal’s brand and Comey’s Spring ’27 collection. The Coco Bag retails for $425 and is available for pre-order.

Henry Zankov's Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2027 Debut Welcomes a New Generation

Atop The High Line, just above Diane von Furstenberg’s Meatpacking District store, Henry Zankov unveiled his vision for the iconic label on Thursday morning. As the official start to the New York Fashion Week schedule — and one of the buzziest designer debuts — Diane von Furstenberg’s Spring 2027 collection was awash with vibrant prints and an arresting color palette, which is right in Zankov’s wheelhouse.

The New York-based designer, who previously worked at Diane von Furstenberg under Jonathan Saunders, is known for his keen eye for playful colors and silhouettes seen throughout his namesake label. Now, Zankov’s design approach is merging with Diane von Furstenberg’s archival animal prints and signature seductive attitude. (“Diane always told me it was all about ‘body language’,” Zankov wrote in the collection’s show notes.)

“DVF is really a brand of heritage and the visual vocabulary is so strong that everything is there,” Zankov told Fashionista after the show. “It’s more about pushing it into the future and really making it appealing to a new generation.”

For Spring 2027, the collection explores the natural ease of “a woman in motion,” per the show notes. Gauzy maxi dresses, crinkled chiffon and bias-cut silks graced the runway, along with strategic bursts of pattern mixing. Of course, the label’s signature wrap dress also made an appearance. The runway location only exemplified the collection’s flowing silhouettes, as billowing trains and feather-light layers swayed with the morning breeze.

Zankov is also doing double duty this week, as the designer still helms his namesake label, which is hosting its Spring 2027 runway on Monday. “Obviously both brands, there is definitely a lot of crossover with color and pattern, but DVF is more sexy, more seductive, and I think Zankov is more cerebral,” Zankov said, reflecting on the differences of designing for both brands.

At Rachel Antonoff and Susan Alexandra's NYFW Show, Pet Parents Schlep in Style

What better way to celebrate day zero of New York Fashion Week than with a parade of dogs (and their well-dressed celebrity handlers)? For the third year in a row, Rachel Antonoff and Susan Alexandra partnered for their annual “Best in Show” event, turning the brands’ Spring 2027 runway into a rescue dog show presenting adoptable canines from Animal Haven.

Hosted by comedians Jacqueline Novak and Chris Fleming, the stylish spoof of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place at Webster Hall on Wednesday. Both brands are known for their sartorial whimsy — Rachel Antonoff, for quirky ready-to-wear; Susan Alexandra, for kitschy beaded accessories. On the runway, this joyful approach to fashion took shape in playful prints depicting vintage medicine cabinets, mismatched tartan sets and statement fringe handbags. Stars like Aly Raisman, Victoria Pedretti, Jane Wickline and Devon Walker strutted the runway with rescue dogs in tow. Unsurprisingly, there were also a lot of dog motifs.

“We always get really inspired by just thinking about people schlepping around with their dogs,” Susan Korn, founder of Susan Alexandra, told Fashionista after the show.

Beyond the runway’s actual dog-friendly schlepping representation (think bedazzled leashes and spacious totes), the celebrity models also showed off a green suit with canine-inspired line drawings, a hound-printed skirt set and a dachshund-shaped purse. This season, Antonoff and Korn also partnered with Etsy sellers to co-design pieces that merge the designers’ colorful aesthetics with the sellers’ craftsmanship, including beaded pet pouches, crochet hats and matching collars.

“It means so much,” Antonoff said, reflecting on the duo’s third partnership. “We’ve been talking about it actually, just like this is such a special thing to get to do, to get to do it together. We feel really, really lucky.”

MuseSelect Is Betting Up to 25% Commissions Can Change the Creator Commerce Equation

Creators may increasingly influence what shoppers buy, but they still capture a relatively small share of the economics behind those purchases. MuseSelect is betting that the next phase of social commerce will give them a bigger stake.

The platform officially launched its U.S. Creator Fashion Market at CoCreate LA today, bringing more than 5,000 fall and winter styles from over 100 brands to fashion creators. It also unveiled Muse 1000, a three-year initiative designed to help 1,000 creators launch labels of their own.

The timing reflects a widening gap between creators’ influence and their ownership. U.S. social commerce sales are expected to surpass $100 billion this year, according to eMarketer, while affiliate links account for just 8.2% of U.S. creator earnings. Sponsored content remains dominant, and in both models creators typically help generate demand without owning the product, customer relationship or underlying brand.

MuseSelect is trying to push that model further. Its affiliate commissions start at 15% and can reach about 25%. Creators can also use Museland, its product-development tool, to select silhouettes, create original graphics and sell those products through consumer marketplace MuseTopia. Creator-originated designs earn an additional 3% royalty.

The platform also uses creators as an early demand signal. Styles can be tested through community pre-sales before suppliers commit to larger production runs, potentially reducing excess inventory while giving creators more influence over what reaches market.

At CoCreate, that approach became tangible. Creators moved through small-group sessions to review brands, select and fit products, shoot content and refine their edits. Demonstrations showed an AI-generated pattern becoming a finished garment and a storefront being built around a creator’s previous selections and audience profile.

MuseSelect says roughly 10,000 creators have registered in the past two months. In a U.S. pilot, 10 storefronts generated nearly $300,000 over three months, including more than $100,000 from one creator.

“Creators have become one of the most powerful forces shaping what consumers discover and buy,” said MuseSelect CEO Ricky Xie. The company’s bigger wager is that some of them are ready to move from influencing fashion businesses to building their own.

Coach Throws Itself a Birthday Party for Spring 2027

What’s the best way a brand can celebrate its 85th anniversary? According to Coach, with lots of party hats and sequins. On Wednesday evening, guests walked into a spacious, dimly lit venue at New York City’s Pier 36 for Coach’s Spring 2027 show and were greeted with small tables of olives, breadsticks and glasses of wine. Then came the show, which was a love letter to Coach.

“[The collection] is ultimately about love,” Creative Director Stuart Vevers told press backstage after the show. “The song title at the end is ‘Love Is the Message,’ and I wanted to show the things that I love about Coach in its 85th birthday year. It made me think about celebrations, like amazing birthdays or my wedding.”

The first few models walked out in primarily neutral attire, like grey-and-black monochrome suiting and dark knits. Eventually, pops of color — gold, soft pinks and butter yellow — crept into the lineup, followed by the closing looks: head-to-toe sequin dresses and maxi skirt sets. As always, accessories were a highlight of the collection, with this season’s offerings including updated versions of the Turnlock Tote Bag, gift boxes reimagined as purses and leather birthday hats.

“Even though it was an 85th anniversary celebration, it’s not a retrospective collection,” Vevers said. “It’s not looking back, really. There are references to Coach in there, but I thought the best way to celebrate this anniversary was actually to look forward.”

For the finale, curtains behind the runway rose to reveal string musicians performing; a disco ball dropped; and confetti fell around the venue. As the models returned for the final walkthrough, eight voguing dancers joined them down the runway. It was the perfect transition for guests to go to Coach Club 65, the afterparty held immediately after the show wrapped.

New York Fashion Week officially kicked off on Thursday (unofficially on Wednesday), and already we’re taking note of what the stylish showgoers are wearing. Because let’s be honest — some of the best fashion is happening outside the runway shows.

As usual, Copenhagen Fashion Week already teased a handful of street style trends we can expect to make their rounds in New York, London, Milan and Paris. What else is Team Fashionista predicting to see outside the Spring 2027 shows? We expect sporty aesthetics to infiltrate this season’s outfits, along with luxury It bags. Plus, it’s not September fashion week without preparing for a potential heatwave — so we’re betting on lots of chic sandals and lightweight, breathable bottoms.

The Barbification of 'Practical Magic 2'

In 2023, a poster for “Practical Magic 2” began circulating online. It was fake — a fan rendering cast out into the ether — but it spread anyway. For anyone who dabbles in New Age woo woo, a sequel ending up happening might count as a successful manifestation, the faux poster a makeshift vision board. We witches, however, call that a spell. But remember Aunt Jet’s warning long ago: Be careful what you wish for.

When “Practical Magic” was first released in 1998, it was considered a box-office failure. Critics panned it (Roger Ebert gave it two stars, blasphemously criticizing the iconic “This Kiss” scene), and it made only $46.7 million against its $75 million budget. Nearly 30 years later, though, it’s built a devoted following made up of OG fans and newer converts alike, drawn in by sisterhood, witchcraft and pre-whimsigoth ’90s style. We could sum it up as nostalgia, but it’s more than that.

This week, on Sept. 11, the highly anticipated sequel will hit theaters, but it comes with enough brand partnerships to put “Barbie” Summer to shame. Target rolled out graphic tees and cropped hoodies, while Wayfair built its first-ever film partnership around Owens house-esque home decor. Flamingo Estate curated a beautifully thought-out “Everyday Alchemy” seasonal box, while Ninja rolled out a whole line of Slushi machines in “Practical Magic”-inspired hues. Blaze Pizza joined in with a”Mystic Margherita” pie, and even M&Ms got in on the fun with its very own limited-edition “Spell and Snack” pack. The only thing we’re missing is a McDonald’s Happy Meal (which we fans would still happily buy).

For Barbie, the MCU or any other kind of movie backed by a multi-billion-dollar franchise, that kind of marketing avalanche makes sense. But for a niche film about a family of witches who live under a centuries-old curse and make margaritas at midnight, it’s a little unexpected. So how could a 30-year-old “flop” become such a hot commodity that its merch rollout is this intense?

Jannine D. Lasaleta, a professor at Yeshiva University whose research examines how nostalgia shapes spending, says that when we’re nostalgic, we care less about money. “The motivation to hold onto it, to make more of it, goes down… you’re more willing to spend it,” she says. (Which probably explains why millennials will pay top dollar to see the Backstreet Boys at the Sphere in Las Vegas.) Nostalgic memories are tied to feeling socially supported, she explains, and when you implicitly feel like your needs could be met by the people around you, money stops feeling as urgent to hold onto.

There’s a scarcity multiplier, too. Unlike Marvel or Barbie, “Practical Magic” IP isn’t everywhere, and that rarity, combined with the nostalgia, makes the moment feel more valuable when it does arrive. That’s also why she doesn’t expect the movie’s merch to trigger the kind of consumer fatigue that might hit other franchises. It simply was never everywhere to begin with. (Fans, like me, had to custom-make our own merch.)

Nostalgia does something else, too: It gets folded into identity. “Nostalgic entities can facilitate a sense of self-continuity,” says Lasaleta — buying into something that shaped you as a teenager has a way of connecting who you were to who you are now. It’s also, she notes, tied to authenticity: Nostalgic objects feel more real to us than new ones, even when they’re objectively the same thing.

According to Stefany Lopes, the events and culture strategist at trend forecasting firm WGSN, the hype around “Practical Magic” goes beyond nostalgia. “It gives audiences a comforting world they can actively step into at a time when reality feels increasingly complex,” she says. “For millennials, the film offers emotional refuge and a return to something familiar. For Gen Z, it taps into a fascination with the perceived simplicity, intimacy, and analog charm of the 1990s, even if they did not experience the decade firsthand.”

Lopes also connected the moment to something WGSN has dubbed “the New-Age Mystics,” a youth subculture she flags as key for 2026. Young people rattled by climate anxiety and economic instability are building “personal belief systems shaped by Wicca, alchemy and folklore,” offering a sense of control outside organized religion. It makes sense — historically, in times of turmoil, people turn more to witchcraft and the occult.

“Practical Magic 2” might appeal to some for comfort, aesthetics and plain old trend contagion, but it’s also happening during a perfect storm — a broader cultural turn toward magic as a coping mechanism. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock’s sisterly chemistry is just the cherry on top. Lopes doesn’t see it slowing down, either, but she’s clear about the actual risk. “Cultural credibility comes from contribution, not visual borrowing,” she says. “Without that substance, brands risk being dismissed as ‘culture vultures’ rather than welcomed as meaningful collaborators.”

One of these meaningful collaborators is Awe Inspired, a jewelry brand that has built its identity around goddess mythology and female empowerment. It spent about a year building the collection with Warner Bros., working from real script pages and prop references. (“Practical Magic 2” isn’t the brand’s first film collaboration, either; it also did a collection for “Forbidden Fruits,” another witchy, if far smaller, film.)

But Jill Johnson, Awe Inspired’s co-founder and artistic director, says the film’s themes make this collaboration feel different. “It told the truth about how power moves between us, mother to daughter, sister to sister,” she says. “Every family carries its own mythology, the objects and stories we hand down without ever explaining why. That’s what drew us to this collaboration, the chance to turn that inheritance into something a woman can hold and one day pass to someone she loves.” Her son and co-founder, Max Johnson, adds: “It’s one of the few films that made women’s intuition look like strength instead of something to be tamed. Almost 30 years later, that idea feels more relevant, not less.”

Poppy and Pout, a “sustainable” lip balm brand, got the same kind of call on a much smaller scale. “We knew we wanted it to feel witchy, but modern,” says co-owner and chief brand officer Krysta Morgan. Her team leaned into their existing junk-journal aesthetic, with its collage-style packaging, florals and botanicals to create two flavors: Garden Spell and Midnight Margarita.

But nobody has watched this shift more closely than the fans who were making their own “Practical Magic”-inspired merch years before the sequel was in motion. Ladymoon founder Lauretta Wong began designing items nearly a decade ago. Her Midnight Margarita Coven pin became a bestseller in what she calls a “niche little club” of fellow obsessives. “I think once the internet witch became a whole-ass situation, everything witchy became popular again, and more and more people started coming out for that specific fandom,” she says. Over the past year, she’s noticed her sales ramping up, so she’s had to order triple what she normally would.

Watching the official rollout, Wong was surprised and mostly delighted, but she noticed which brands did their homework and which didn’t. “It was really smart to include such a wide range of home, beauty and fashion products. Just like Sally and Gillian — it feels relatable.” She singled out Flamingo Estate for using sustainable mugwort instead of white sage in a smoke cleanser — a detail that shows the brand actually researched the tradition instead of borrowing its aesthetic. She questions others for either slapping an “inspired by ‘Practical Magic 2′” sticker on an already existing product or for what seemed like AI-generated work. “That doesn’t compel me to buy,” she says. Instead, she would have liked to see a cast iron cauldron collab with Smith & Clark, or an eye-shadow palette with a brand like Half Magic (though, given Half Magic’s ties to A24, a Warner Bros. crossover was probably never in the cards).

Kristina Babich and Justina Carubia have spent four years interviewing “Practical Magic” fan-artists on their podcast “Magnolia Street” (named after the street where the Owens sisters live), and they feel this tension firsthand. Babich had been waiting for this world to expand for years, watching earlier attempts, like the HBO prequel series “The Rules of Magic,” fall apart.

“For fans, there really wasn’t much of anything for such a long time,” says Babich, which is what makes her reaction to the current wave complicated. “The irony is that we went from having almost nothing to suddenly having so much that it can feel oversaturated,” she says. “I’m thrilled that the franchise is finally being celebrated on this scale. I just wish some of that celebration had been more intentionally rooted in the incredibly creative fan community that helped keep ‘Practical Magic’ alive in the first place.”

Carubia, for her part, describes herself as “somewhat of a purist” about the original film, and admits she’s approached this whole rollout with cautious excitement. Like Wong, her critique of the merch is more specific than “too much” — it’s about what’s missing. She wants more of what actually lived in the Owens house, such as apothecary jars, seed packets, herbs, beautiful glassware and kitchenware. “I’d much rather own something that makes another fan say, ‘Wait… is that a ‘Practical Magic’ reference?’ than something with the movie title printed across it,” she says.

Some of what’s rolled out so far, she says, is “giving ‘department store'” — with more contemporary, conventional looks over the thrifted, inherited, decades-collected wardrobe that the original film’s costumes by Judianna Makovsky evoked. “I don’t expect Sally and Gillian to still be wearing their ’90s wrap skirts and lace camisoles, as they’re at different stages in their lives, but the original wardrobe felt collected, lived-in and timeless,” she says.

The best collaborations, Carubia says, are “the ones that understand what fans actually love about ‘Practical Magic’, rather than simply recognizing that it’s having a moment and putting the name on another product.” Again, Aunt Jet did warn us. We wished for the sequel, and we got it — margarita blenders, M&Ms and all.

Harlem's Fashion Row Celebrates New Print Magazine and Cover Star Tracee Ellis Ross

The first event of New York Fashion Week always feels like a deep inhale before the chaos. On Tuesday evening, that moment came courtesy of the 19th annual Harlem’s Fashion Row Runway Show and Style Awards ceremony in New York City.

The theme for the event was “Peace by Piece,” a nod to both protecting one’s peace and the way fashion industry insiders build their careers and brands — literally piece by piece. The show opened with remarks from Harlem’s Fashion Row Founder and CEO Brandice Daniel, who encouraged anyone getting started — in fashion or business in general — to not get overwhelmed at the prospect of starting something new. “You don’t have to build everything overnight, in chaos, or afraid, you can build in peace,” she said. Daniel also frequently reiterates this on her Instagram, where she shares business advice encouraging people to lean on their community.

“Nobody is here by accident,” Daniel continued. “We all believe that designers of color matter, and…you’re welcome at this table.”

The gathering also served as a celebration for the launch of the organization’s first-ever magazine, HFR, whose inaugural cover star Tracee Ellis Ross gave remarks before the awards presentation began. (Ross’ hair-care brand Pattern also served as a sponsor for the evening.) The first issue features an interview with Ross to accompany her cover, as well as Q&As with all of the designers, stylists and editors who were honored at the 2026 event.

“I’ve been a part of this community since 2015,” Ross said. “I received the icon award…from honoree to sponsor — kind of boss if you think about it. For 19 years, HFR has held space for black designers and creatives to be seen, celebrated and supported. Pattern is honored to support HFR; we are a really good match,” she said.

From there, it was time for the awards: Brandon Blackwood took home the Designer of the Year award, presented to him by Antoine Gregory. Jahleel Weaver received the Stylist of the Year, presented to him by friend and designer Amina Muaddi, who noted how Weaver completely redefined pregnancy style when he began working with Rihanna. Weaver thanked the singer, who “gave [him] an opportunity that changed the course of my life,” he said in his acceptance speech.

Recho Omondi received the Editor of the Year award, while Audrey Smaltz nabbed the Ann Lowe Maverick Award. The organization honored Wisdom Kaye with the Virgil Abloh Award presented by LVMH, and Erykah Badu sent in a video message to celebrate and accept her win of this year’s Fashion Icon award.

Next came the runway show, which opened with a playful partnership with American Girl, for which 11-year-old designer Brooke Sumpter (founder of Brooke LauRen Children’s Brand) designed a line that featured dresses for both girls and their dolls.

And finally, three labels — Atelier Ndigo, founded by Waina Chancy; Rey Jaiteh, founded by Lamin “Rey” Jaiteh and Chuks Collins — showcased their Spring 2027 collections with a full-scale runway show. But this year, the runway show had another surprise up its sleeve: The $100,000 Runway Ahead Prize, which was awarded to Chancy to help scale her brand even further.

The 2026 CFDA Fashion Award Nominees Are In

Just as New York Fashion Week kicked off Wednesday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) unveiled its nominees and honorees for the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards.

Up for the American Womenswear Designer of the Year are Catherine Holstein for Khaite, Michael Kors, Rachel Scott for Diotima, Tory Burch and Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera. Scott, Burch and Gordon are all returning nominees from last year’s race, while last year’s winner, Ralph Lauren, has moved over to the menswear category.

There, Lauren joins reigning winner Thom Browne, fresh off his November win, alongside other Todd Snyder, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School New York and Willy Chavarria.

The CFDA also revealed special honorees like Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello, who will receive the International Designer of the Year Award, and Meta’s Eva Chen, who will receive the Media Award.

“The CFDA Fashion Awards presented by Amazon Fashion are a defining moment for American creativity, bringing our community together to recognize the designers and creative voices whose talent, vision, and originality continue to move our industry forward,” CFDA CEO and President Steven Kolb said in a statement. “This year feels especially meaningful as we celebrate the extraordinary breadth of American creativity and its influence on culture around the world. We are proud to honor those shaping fashion today while creating a platform that inspires and supports the generation that will define its future.”

Yulee Choi Is Entering Her Fashion Era, One Look at a Time

If you don’t know Yulee Choi, you will soon. Her career in music stretches back more than a decade. The Korean singer-songwriter began her career as a composer. In 2020, she founded SRP Entertainment, where she developed and managed artists. In 2023, she launched her own solo career, followed by her first full-length album in 2024. Basically, she can’t be stopped.

It’s not just music, either. In 2025, Choi had her feature-film debut in Netflix’s “Food Truck: Stolen Love… and Moo Deng,” which catapulted her right into the rom-com world. Now, as she continues to build her career in the U.S., she’s using clothes, music and some major performances (just wait and see) to explore the different sides of her personality.

That’s especially apparent in her latest musical era. On Aug. 28, Choi released two new singles, “Honey On My Lips” and “Love All Over Me.” Each offers a different perspective on her evolving sound and look, with the accompanying music videos bringing those distinctions to life visually and fashion playing a central role in each song.

“The songs have different feelings,” Choi tells Fashionista. “‘Honey On My Lips’ is more playful and catchy; ‘Love All Over Me’ is more sexy and bold and confident.” She was involved in every aspect of bringing the songs to life, she explains, from the music and videos to the performances and fashion.

That creative, hands-on involvement has also helped shape Choi’s personal style. She describes it as “feminine and confident.” Her approach to getting dressed, whether alone or with the help of stylist Monica Rose, is rooted in that same confidence.

When Choi wants to feel especially self-assured, she reaches for a fitted dress that feels “feminine and sexy,” she says. And there’s one category in her closet she says she simply can’t live without: heels. “I love how I feel when I wear them,” she says.

When it comes to fashion inspiration, Choi looks to one of pop’s biggest style icons: Rihanna. Choi counts Ri as one of her favorite artists, pointing to her “strong character, performance and drama” that she looks up to. It’s an apt reference for an artist who is thinking about her music as a full visual experience, rather than simply a list of songs.

That approach was evident at Choi’s Aug. 28 release celebration at the iHeartRadio Los Angeles Theater, where she premiered both music videos and performed the new singles live with a team of dancers. The evening was hosted by iHeartRadio personality JoJo Wright, with creative direction and choreography from Richy Jackson, whose credits include Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Beyoncé. Rose styled Choi’s looks for the event and for her music videos.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Yulee for the past few years, and I’ve loved watching her style evolve,” Rose said in a statement. “She’s fearless; she trusts the process; she’s never afraid to take a fashion risk. With every project, we build a new fashion story together, creating a look that matches the energy of the moment.”

Inditex Q2 Profit Falls Short Despite Strong Sales

Inditex reported second-quarter profit below expectations on Wednesday, sending shares down 3%, as costs grew due to conflict in the Middle East. The Zara owner posted €11 billion ($12.8 billion) in sales with a 56.7% gross profit margin, slightly below analysts’ forecasts, citing higher transport and input costs. La Ligne Dug Through Banana Republic's Archives for Its New 36-Piece Collaboration

We’ve talked a lot about how mall brands are back. Gap, Old Navy and Abercrombie & Fitch have had major moments in the past few years, and we’re even seeing Hollister creep back into the zeitgeist. Banana Republic, part of Gap Inc., is ready for its moment: The retailer teamed up with New York-based womenswear brand La Ligne on a 36-piece collection that launches Wednesday.

“La Ligne felt like a natural partner for us because there is such a strong alignment in how we both think about a modern wardrobe,” Meena Anvary, CMO of Banana Republic, tells Fashionista via email. “They have a very distinct point of view, and it’s grounded in pieces that are both timeless and versatile with a real appreciation for quality.”

La Ligne was founded in 2016 by former Vogue editors Meredith Melling and Valerie Macaulay, along with Molly Howard, formerly head of business development at Rag & Bone. The trio set out to create a brand full of timeless items that go beyond chasing trends. For this collection, they went into the Banana Republic archives to reimagine some of the legacy brand’s most iconic pieces that stand the test of time.

“From the onset of our conversations, there was a real excitement from Meredith, Molly and Valerie to explore Banana Republic’s archive,” Anvary continues. “Those references are reinterpreted through modern proportions, styling and La Ligne’s signature approach to stripes. There’s a clear and cohesive perspective.”

“[The archives] was such a rich place to work from [with] decades of design history to explore,” Valerie Macaulay adds. “Our job was bringing our lens to that heritage: our love of stripes, our attention to detail, our insistence on quality.”

You’ll see small nods to La Ligne throughout the collection, she explains: The number three shows up for the three co-founders in cuffs and buckles and stripes, alongside Banana Republic’s own codes, like the asymmetrical button details that reference its archives. Those details speak to the larger idea behind the collaboration: Rather than simply putting La Ligne’s signature touches onto Banana Republic pieces, the two brands wanted to find the overlap between their respective design languages.

“We’re at a point where we’ve established what La Ligne stands for, and Banana Republic felt like a partner that could meet us there rather than pull us somewhere unfamiliar,” Molly Howard says. “There’s a real kinship in values, a belief in quality, in pieces built to last, in style that’s classic without being boring.”

The brands tapped actor Zoey Deutch to star in the campaign, shot and directed by Andrew Jacobs. “Zoey has an innate sense of style that feels both timeless and modern, with an ease and individuality that is entirely her own,” Anvary says. “We wanted the campaign to feel intimate, playful and lived-in. The Tribeca loft and documentary-inspired approach helped create that world, and Zoey brought an ease to it that made the story feel very real.”

The collection retails for $20 to $1,500 and includes everything from striped tees and tanks to button-downs, blouses, sweaters, trousers and dresses, but the outerwear seems to spark the most excitement. “The nubuck barn jacket, the belted suede wrap coat and an oversized cape trench with a removable corduroy collar all feel like true investment pieces,” Valerie Macaulay says. “We also loved how the wool suit came together, with a nipped-in waist and wide-leg trouser that gives it a modern silhouette.”

Is The Future of Fashion Weeks… Sweat?

At the Men’s and Haute Couture Fashion Weeks in Paris this summer, the hottest accessory wasn’t a rare designer sneaker or fresh-off-the-runway handbag, but something far smaller: handheld fans.

After a red heatwave alert issued by Météo-France, the country’s national weather service, attendees felt the effects of climate change firsthand throughout the two weeks. Sweat stains became signs of a busy schedule, deodorant turned into a “what’s in my bag” essential and functioning air conditioning units became the ultimate luxury. For once, “haute” and “hot” could be used in the same sentence without anyone’s eyes rolling — which raises questions about the cause-and-effect relationship between fashion and the current climate crisis.

Nowhere was that relationship more visible than at Louis Vuitton’s show, where guests were transported to a beachside oasis complete with an 8-meter-tall artificial waterfall. Although LVMH says that the water was used in a closed-loop system and the sand would be repurposed for beach volleyball courts at the school where the event was hosted, the spectacle was highly criticized given the context of when the show took place. The use of precious resources and privatization of a public space during a climate crisis read to many as distasteful.

That distaste is part of a debate already simmering across the industry over whether fashion weeks have outlived their purpose. Beyond the elaborate sets, every show involves editors, buyers, stylists, models, celebrities, publicists and production crews traveling around the world (often for a presentation lasting less than 20 minutes). Multiplied across dozens of shows in several cities, throughout the year, that scale of travel and material waste takes a toll extending far beyond carbon emissions alone — all before a single garment reaches a store.

In a Fashionista survey that asked industry professionals about the value of fashion week, one respondent put it bluntly: “No matter how many trees you plant or carbon offsets you buy, fashion shows are not sustainable.”

Another said, “The logic behind using up so many resources to make four collections a year and to stage fashion shows which hundreds of people must fly around the world to see needs to be examined.”

Still, fashion weeks persist, and this season’s heat only make their consequences harder to ignore. With air conditioning still a rarity across Europe, weather becomes impossible to separate from the event and the clothing itself. Men’s Week hit temperatures as high as 42°C (105°F), leading mainstays like Dior and Rick Owens to move their allotted show times to earlier in the morning. Stylist Edward Park, who had previously only attended Paris Men’s Week in the winter, credits Parisian traffic with helping him cool down between events, thanks to on-the-go car AC.

“I tried my best to have blocks in between to take cold showers or change outfits if possible,” Park says. He also recommends portable fans and packing lighter clothing for the heat, noting that “many boots and long pants” went unworn during his trip. “In general, it was difficult to schedule more personal and last-minute meetings than in the winter show season, because everyone was taking as much downtime as possible to recharge,” he recalls.

A week later, it was hard to revel into the fantasy of Pierpaolo Piccioli’s couture debut for Balenciaga, as guests (seated in a shadeless courtyard at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris at midday) found little reprieve from the heat.

For Julie de Libran’s presentation, bare feet offered a small measure of relief, a choice that fit naturally with the venue itself: the Rituel Pilates studio. “We had planned for our guests, teams and models to take their shoes off for the space,” says de Libran, who noted that for many guests, the experience was an entirely new one. She also adds that fans offered a fresh breeze and “flowing movement” for the collection, which was all about breathable fabrics.

Maison Kitsune Menswear Spring 2027

Backstage, hair, makeup and production teams had to contend with the heat not only for themselves, but also for the models in their care.

“The Paris heatwave was particularly challenging, especially for the models,” says Noemie Laborde, head of makeup at the Maison Kitsuné Spring 2027 open-air show. “Fortunately, we work with high-quality hair and makeup products that perform well even in extreme temperatures, so we didn’t experience any issues in that regard.” Laborde’s weaponry of choice against the weather: Avène Thermal Spring Water and, unsurprisingly, mini handheld fans.

For Florida State University junior Ava Berry, who landed the opportunity to work as a dresser at Robert Wun’s show, titled “Child’s Play,” success came down to making the most of brief moments: “Anticipat[ing] the model’s needs during those pauses, making sure they had a chance to cool down and were as comfortable and prepared as possible before stepping onto the runway,” she says.

That challenge was compounded by the fact that July’s couture shows preview the fall season, meaning heavier, more complicated garments. That made backstage coordination all the more critical in extreme heat.

What may seem like an obvious fix — simply rescheduling the shows — has already been ruled out. Pushing the calendar earlier would crowd it too close to the previous season, leaving designers and production teams without enough time to plan. Pushing it later isn’t any better as buying cycles are already tight, and the circuit would bleed into the women’s ready-to-wear season in September.

With the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode only encouraging — not mandating — precautions for worker conditions at member brands, and recent investigations of alleged labor exploitation at high-end fashion firms in Italy, the past few months have created more questions about the future of fashion weeks than answers. One of them: Should the fashion calendar remain gendered in the first place, especially as style grows more fluid and the ever-expanding schedule takes a growing toll on the environment?

These hypothetical concerns are not confined to Europe, as the next big stop will likely make it more evident that the calendar was built for a climate that no longer exists.

Since the release of the New York Fashion Week schedule, the heat and humidity have shown no signs of loosening their grip on the city. In the middle of its own historic heatwave, the city saw wildfire smoke drift down from Canada in July, pushing the Air Quality Index (AQI) to 240. Weeks later, heavy rain triggered flooding alerts across the boroughs, turning subway stations into waterfalls of grey runoff — hardly a welcome sign for designers in America, finalizing collections and handling fittings these last few weeks. Alas, what occurred in Paris may continue to its American counterpart.

“It’s disappointing when you finally get to the fitting studio, and there’s no AC, or it’s an enclosed space packed with models waiting in line — sometimes in a building hallway,” says model Amy Wang about casting season. She’s taken to using her comp card as a cooling hack. “It cools me off and wipes the sweat off my face at the same time. I actually find joy in it, too. The sweat gives me glowy skin in castings, and it makes me feel more confident, not less.”

Air conditioning may be easier to find in New York than in Paris, but the climate takes an even more direct toll on those who work fashion week from the sidewalk: street style photographers. L.A.-based Renee De Villa, who has photographed New York Fashion Week in past seasons, says the job now means being “simply stuck waiting outside of shows and searching for shelter where we can.” At times, the alleviation shifts from herself to her equipment; she suggests attaching a SmallRig cooling fan onto the camera to prevent overheating.

From stylists rationing cold showers between appointments to models turning comp cards into fans to photographers finagling complicated camera protection, industry professionals are contending with a slew of new logistical predicaments during already-chaotic events like fashion week. With temperatures rising globally and El Niño tearing through the U.S., weather has become more extreme and unpredictable than ever — faster than even the most advanced cities can adjust their infrastructures. No amount of handheld fans will be enough to close the gap.

If Paris was a preview, will the September shows in New York and beyond force fashion (and the regions depending on its business) to stop sidelining climate change as a one-off, and perhaps even reckon more seriously with its own role in causing it?

Meet the Designers Making Their New York Fashion Week Debuts for Spring 2027

This September, all eyes are on the Big Apple as New York Fashion Week kicks off the Spring 2027 season. The six-day fashion spectacular, scheduled from Sept. 10 – 15, welcomes NYFW’s usual suspects (Tommy Hilfiger! Tory Burch! Christian Siriano!), but a slew of newcomers are also poised to make their mark.

This season, three of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund (CVFF) finalists — Jamie Haller, Bad Binch TongTong and Milamore — are showing on the official calendar for the first time. Spring 2027 also marks a homecoming for Conner Ives, as the New York-born designer is trading his usual London Fashion Week spot for his first runway show on the CFDA calendar. (In fact, Ives appeared to tease his NYC return last season by wearing an “I Love NY” shirt to close his Fall 2026 show.)

Other NYFW first timers include Ella Mae, a Los Angeles-based brand exploring an “earth-first” philosophy; Magda Butrym, a romantic ready-to-wear label from Poland; and Seidler, Benjamin Seidler’s new jewelry and accessories venture.

Bad Binch TongTong

At Bad Binch TongTong, elevated basics simply don’t exist. Founded by designer Terrence Zhou in 2021, the New York-based label constructs avant-garde silhouettes that mix fashion with theatricality. The CVFF 2026 finalist has already scored multiple celebrity placements, including Kim Kardashian, SZA, Lizzo, Kris Jenner and Karlie Kloss (“the international council of certified bad binches,” per the brand’s website). Bad Binch TongTong will make its CFDA calendar debut with a runway show on Sept. 10.

Parsons alumna Becca Flood honors her rural upbringing through her eponymous label, as her knitwear designs pay homage to traditions passed down through generations of women in the Flood family. Flood’s traditional craft techniques coexist with her signature contemporary twist, resulting in a label that pushes “fashion beyond spectacle into substance.” For Spring 2027, the designer’s collection is inspired by her childhood dog, Tigerlily. Becca Flood’s debut runway show titled “Where Do All the Weird Girls Go?” is scheduled for Sept. 13.

Designer Cecilia Cassini’s eponymous luxury ready-to-wear brand will show during NYFW for the first time with a presentation on Sept. 12. Founded in 2024, Cecilia Cassini designs luxurious outerwear and statement denim created to be reworn season after season. Cicaedia

Cicaedia, a New York-based fashion house founded by Yitzhak “Aaron” Rosenberg in 2021, operates three interconnected offerings: Cicaedia, a glamorous womenswear venture; Cicaedia Uomo, its menswear arm grounded in “erotic absurdism”; and Atelier Cicaedia, the house’s “highest expression of fantasy.” The label’s name originates from a mispronunciation of “cicada,” and was later refined through “cicadoidea,” the insect’s scientific classification. Cicaedia will stage its debut NYFW runway show on Sept. 14.

Conner Ives

London-based designer (and New York native) Conner Ives has already made global headlines thanks to his viral “Protect the Dolls” slogan T-shirt, but now his namesake label is preparing for its NYFW debut on the CFDA calendar on Sept. 12. In 2021, the Central Saint Martins graduate launched his brand, which is inspired by the women and girls he grew up with. With an assortment spanning sleek silk gowns and graphic tees, Ives taps into nostalgia by prioritizing deadstock and vintage garments. The label has previously shown on the London Fashion Week calendar since 2022.

Ella Mae

Having learned about construction via her mother’s quilt-making in rural Colorado, Ella Mae Jepsen began sewing at 6 years old. Jepsen pursued a BFA in Apparel Design at RISD, and later launched her namesake brand in 2021. Ella Mae is rooted in an “earth-first” philosophy that prioritizes small-batch production and conscious craftsmanship. For example, the Los Angeles-based brand’s garments utilize deadstock and natural fibers as well as dyes made from rust, botanical roots and food waste. Ella Mae’s first NYFW runway show is scheduled for Sept. 13.

Grey’s

Central Saint Martins graduate Emily Grey founded Grey’s in 2024 in London, but has since moved the label’s operations to New York. In pursuit of “relaxed elegance,” the designer juxtaposes couture form and American sportswear technique to create unlined garments that easily transition between casual and formal settings. The emerging label also counts Riley Keough, Uma Thurman and Rama Duwaji as fans. Grey’s will make its official CFDA calendar debut with a presentation on Sept. 11.

Hikari no Yami

Hikari no Yami, which translates to “light in darkness,” is an avant-garde fashion house founded by Jakarie Whitaker. Based between New York and Tokyo, the 2025 Fashion Trust U.S. finalist combines Japanese design philosophy with African American diasporic cultural storytelling. Whitaker reworks Japanese silhouettes (hakama, kimono cut and layered drape, for example) into contemporary outerwear. By using recycled, deadstock and aged materials wherever possible, most of the brand’s pieces are produced in editions of fewer than 50. On Sept. 12, Hikari no Yami will stage its first presentation on the CFDA calendar.

Jamie Haller

Jamie Haller has spent more than two decades in the Los Angeles fashion scene, and in 2020, she unveiled her namesake collection of Italian-made footwear. With an emphasis on “understated and advanced casual design sensibility,” the label has since expanded into ready-to-wear and accessories. Earlier this year, Jamie Haller was named one of the 2026 CVFF finalists. Beyond her fashion career, Haller is also a historic home restorer and an interior designer. Jamie Haller will make its NYFW debut on the CFDA calendar with a presentation on Sept. 11.

Kate Hundley

Kate Hundley creates clothes for New York’s downtown cool girls. The designer founded her eponymous women’s ready-to-wear and accessories label in 2019, and recently expanded into her first retailer, Moda Operandi. Hundley explores “eclectic American beauty” with artisanal details, utilitarian codes and fine art inspirations. The label will make its debut on the CFDA calendar with a presentation on Sept. 12.

Magda Butrym

Based in Poland, Magda Butrym designs for the romantics of the world. The designer’s pieces rely on her singular take on femininity, spanning crochet detailing, peplum silhouettes and dreamy draping. “I don’t want to define women. I want to empower them,” Butrym said on her website. “I want us all to feel comfortable in our own skin, happy, powerful and confident.” Magda Butrym has previously shown at Paris Fashion Week, but on Sept. 13, the label will stage its first NYFW runway show on the official CFDA calendar.

Max Esmail

NYC-based luxury menswear brand Max Esmail “lives at the crossroads of innovation and craftsmanship.” The London-born designer (and former professional snowboarder) studied at Central St. Martins and the Fashion Institute of Technology before launching his namesake brand in 2024. The emerging label has also secured multiple celebrity placements, including Ansel Elgort, Leslie Odom Jr. and Anthony Ramos. Max Esmail has previously shown during New York Men’s Day, but this season, the designer will hold his first presentation on the CFDA calendar on Sept. 12.

Milamore

Milamore, a fine jewelry brand founded by George Inaki in 2019, taps into the philosophy of Kintsugi, or the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with metallic lacquers. The label’s name combines “milagros” (miracle) and “amore” (love). Milamore’s pieces are guided by the belief “mended, not broken,” as seen in their organic, thoughtfully designed shapes. Designed in NYC and handcrafted in Japan, Milamore also embraces wabi-sabi, or finding beauty in imperfection. The 2026 CVFF finalist will make its debut on the CFDA calendar on Sept. 11.

Patrick Taylor

After winning the Fashion Trust U.S. Graduate Award in 2025, British designer Patrick Taylor launched his namesake label in New York that year. The brand references ski racing and sailing throughout its designs, including in its signature icon, the Skiing Guardsman (a.k.a. “the jumper you stole from Dad,” per the brand). Patrick Taylor explores a vibrant color palette and bold graphics through pieces that reference the resilience found in competitive sports. This season, Patrick Taylor will introduce womenswear at its first presentation on the CFDA calendar on Sept. 10.

Sabyasachi

The design world of Sabyasachi — a luxury house founded by Sabyasachi Mukherjee in Calcutta, India, in 1999 — is vast: It spans womenswear, menswear, bridal, accessories and jewelry, in addition to collaborating with the likes of Christian Louboutin, H&M and L’Oréal, among others. Sabyasachi brings Indian heritage to the forefront, utilizing handwoven textiles, bold color palettes and traditional craftsmanship. Sabyasachi previously unveiled its “Snail” collection at NYFW in 2006, but it will make its CFDA calendar debut with a runway show scheduled for Sept. 15.

On Sept. 15, R&B artist October London will launch Saint London, a made-to-measure tailoring house, with a debut NYFW runway show. Saint London — which London created with Fedú Founder Ilbert Sanchez — is the first brand to come out of New London Projects, the venture London built with entrepreneur Dennis Ashley III. With private fittings and personalized client experiences, Saint London tailors elevated suiting across menswear and womenswear.

Benjamin Seidler’s namesake jewelry and accessories brand is launching in tandem with its first-ever presentation on the CFDA calendar scheduled for Sept. 14. Seidler, who is married to Coach’s Creative Director Stuart Vevers, currently serves as Gabriela Hearst’s design director for jewelry. Seidler founded his label in February 2026, per LinkedIn, but further details are being kept under wraps.

After showing at Taipei Fashion Week and Tokyo Fashion Week, Story Wear is heading stateside. The Taiwanese label, which was founded in 2018, is led by designer Kuan Chen and is stocked at Wolf & Badger. For Spring 2027, Story Wear will introduce “Love Revolution: A Story of Taiwan,” an immersive fashion “experience” exploring the brand’s circular design philosophy, its upcycling practices and Taiwanese culture. Story Wear’s Spring 2027 presentation, set for Sept. 14, marks its first time showing at NYFW.

Tang Chi Couture made its runway debut at London Fashion Week in September 2025, and now, it’s hosting its first-ever solo runway show at NYFW on Sept. 11. Founded by New York-based designer Maggie Fan, Tang Chi Couture’s Spring 2027 collection entitled “In Between…” will explore “the fragile space between light and darkness, beauty and mortality and the point where romance can become obsession or danger,” according to a release. The 25-look collection will also introduce Tang Chi Couture’s first ready-to-wear and made-to-order pieces.

Taylor Hoekstra is a Parsons alum with 10 years of experience across brands like Christian Siriano, Tanya Taylor, The Danes, Fashion Snoops and Rya Collection. Now, Hoekstra’s namesake eveningwear brand, Taylor Marie, is making its NYFW debut with a presentation on Sept. 11. The New York City-based label is “rooted in unapologetic femininity and artisanal craftsmanship,” as seen in its made-to-order selection of bow-adorned jackets and mini dresses.

Fashion and sports have become increasingly intertwined, and Terez is at the forefront of this shift. Zara Terez Tisch founded Terez in 2008 to create “seat-to-street” sportswear for women and girls. The NYC-based brand launched its first MLB women’s collection in 2022, and has since expanded its “fashion-forward fanwear” to include partnerships across the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA and NWSL. Terez will make its NYFW runway debut with a collection paying homage to NYC’s professional sports teams on Sept. 9.

Victoria’s Secret CEO Hillary Super is working to revive Pink, the retailer’s youth-focused brand, after it lost half of its sales volume over the past decade. Under new leadership, Pink is being repositioned as “bold, playful, irreverent” and distinct from Victoria’s Secret’s “sexy, glamorous, luxurious” identity, Pink President Ali Dillon told The New York Times. Shein’s Hong Kong Listing Falters Amid Profitability Concerns

Shein has lost about $5 billion in market value since its Hong Kong IPO, with shares closing 19% below their offering price despite a 3.2% rebound Monday. How Kahlana Barfield Brown Is Creating Trend-Forward Clothes That Are Affordable and Size Inclusive

When beauty editor-turned-designer Kahlana Barfield Brown worked in the magazine industry, she saw firsthand just how exclusive the fashion world can be. She worked on cover shoots where the talent was midsize (about size 12 to 14) or larger, and was frustrated by the lack of designer clothing options. It was those experiences that led her to come up with a solution to address this clear need for trendy, size-inclusive clothes.

“I knew that one day I wanted to start a clothing brand because I felt like there was a white space,” she told Fashionista. “I can’t count how many times I was on set…and I would see sizes that said it was a 12, but it fit like a 6. I saw that way too much.”

In 2025, she launched KBB by Kahlana, a streetwear-inspired clothing line that champions size inclusion and affordability. “Not everyone can afford a $1,000 jean,” she shared. “So I always thought, ‘What if I can make a really great quality jean that is very fashion-forward, has an extensive size range and is fly?'”

Xirena Opens Its First-Ever Store in Los Angeles

After 13 years in business, Los Angeles-based Xirena finally has its first retail store. It’s come a long way since launching as a lingerie line: Today, Xirena is a full-fledged ready-to-wear and lifestyle brand. Founder Dierdre Roffoni, who also founded the fashion showroom/agency Findings, launched it after being inspired by the colorful, easy-breezy style of women in Formentera, Spain. The name comes from “sirena,” the Spanish word for “mermaid.”

Xirena’s first store, in the reopened Palisades Village in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood, was also inspired by Spain, Roffoni tells Fashionista. “Europe in the summer and the Mediterranean,” she says. “The sculpted curved walls, the imaginary skylight, the organic feel of the floors, and then all of the wood is carved by hand.” The space was designed in collaboration with architect David Montalba, founding principal of Los Angeles-based Montalba Architects.

Opening the first standalone store in L.A. made sense because both Roffoni and creative director Elise Parseghian live in the area. “The California spirit is so important to our brand,” Parseghian says. “We always have this woman in mind.” The Pacific Palisades is one of their most popular areas when it comes to online sales, with New York (the city and the Hamptons); Dallas, Texas and Charlotte, North Carolina not far behind. The duo sees growth in the south, they believe, because of their use of color in lightweight fabrics.

They also chose Palisades Village because, in part, of the community. In January 2025, one of the most destructive fires in L.A. history severely damaged the shopping center and leveled the surrounding area. “I’m from L.A. and this area and when I saw this community come together on that Saturday when it [re]opened, I had never seen [anything] like it,” Roffoni says. It made her emotional, she adds, and optimistic about retail in the neighborhood.

“The brands, the adjacencies here that are in this little center are so perfect,” Roffoni continues. “They all complement each other. Everyone gets along so well that it’s not a competitive group of people.” Surrounding stores include Leset, Misa, A.L.C. and Anine Bing.

It was also the right time for a store because the brand saw e-commerce sales growing for its full ready-to-wear collection. Although Xirena is sold at Shopbop, Mother Denim and Bloomingdale’s (among others), a standalone store offers an opportunity to showcase how much the brand has grown. After lingerie, the brand introduced button-downs before expanding into a fuller wardrobe offering. “We do sweaters, we do outerwear,” Parseghian says. “We have so many new categories.”

More store locations could be coming but they want to do it “slowly and make sure it’s the right area,” Roffoni says. “I think it’s important to have fewer and better because you lose so much control [otherwise]. I think eventually we could have four stores.” Pop-ups are a possibility, especially in Europe. Xirena recently launched in Paris’ iconic department store, Le Bon Marché, giving the brand a foothold in another key fashion market.
