The Denver Art Museum is hosting a new fashion exhibit called “Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective.” While we mentioned this exhibition in our 2012 museum roundup, we just got some more details about this particular show.

The exhibition will be hosted at the museum from March 25 – July 8. The Denver Art Museum is the only venue in the US at which this show will be held, and it sounds pretty spectacular. As the name suggests, it’s a retrospective of YSL’s career from his early days at Dior in the 1950s up through his last show in 2002. The show was curated by Florence Müller and overseen by Pierre Bergé, who was YSL’s one-time romantic partner and life-long business partner.

Now here’s where it gets a littler strange.

To most unknown and/or struggling designers trying to break into the industry, winning the grand prize on a season of Project Runway sounds like an absolute dream come true: $100,000, a major fashion mag editorial, an ultra-expensive technology suite, website partnerships, instant name recognition, and endless opportunities for publicity.

But what happens when the cameras stop rolling? When Tim Gunn is no longer hovering over your shoulder in the workroom, telling you what ‘worries’ him? Or when, instead of competing against 15 designers in a challenge, you’re competing with potentially hundreds of thousands of designers around the world?

With Project Runway All Stars (finally!) premiering tonight, it got us wondering about all the seriously talented individuals to whom Heidi Klum never said “auf wiedersehen.”

Tim Gunn, the beloved mentor on Project Runway, is branching out in all sorts of new directions in 2012.

Most notably, everyone’s favorite filter-less and erudite fashion mentor has landed another TV spot co-hosting a new daytime talk show, The Revolution, which airs January 16 at 2pm EST on ABC. Each week the health and lifestyle show will feature one woman’s five-month-long weight loss “journey” to change, compressed into five days; Friday will be the “reveal” day. (This is a great concept–who doesn’t love a good make-over reveal?)

Tim’s role on the show will be to provide fashion and styling advice to these women whose bodies are undergoing big changes. He’ll be joined in co-hosting duties by the often-frenetic Ty Pennington (interior design/art), Harley Pasternak (trainer and nutritionist to every hot celeb out there), Dr. Jennifer Ashton (OB/Gyn/women’s health issues), and Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry (relationship expert).

While somewhat under the radar, Tim also signed on as Weight Watchers’ “style consultant” last January.

Brazil is in a financial boom right now while other countries and regions are trying to dig out of near-recessions. And what better way to celebrate a booming economy than with a Project Runway franchise? Truly the way to know you’ve arrived!

Brazil’s Project Runway, called Projeto Fashion, follows the same formula as the other franchises (which in addition to the US have run in Korea, Australia, Latin America and Canada). There are 12 designers in this inaugural season, most of whom are in their early 20s, with a lone 39-year-old man representing the “old” crowd (his bio says he loves Madonna). The usual quirky backgrounds exist–after all, this is still reality TV. While most have gone to or are still attending fashion school, there’s a miner, a former beauty contestant, and a “super Christian” (that’s a Google translation from the original Portuguese) who is letting God guide her designs. Also–and I’m not sure if this represents the population at-large in Brazil–three of the six male designers have pretty decently sized ear gauges.

Remember waaay back in 2004, when the first-ever designer was auf’d on Project Runway, and there was still a glimmer of hope that ANTM might actually find America’s next top model? We secretly practiced smizing in the mirror and cringed at the prospect of boring Nina. Well, things have gotten a lot more complex since those simple times–for better or worse (but mostly better!). While we still love our old faves, it’s always nice to mix it up a bit and keep the DVR busy–especially when it comes to fashion television.

This fall and beyond offers a slew of exciting (and at times, a little repetitive) new fashionably oriented reality shows: From competitions searching for even more amazing new talents, to docu-series following our already much-loved fash peeps (hello, Brad!), to a behind-the-counter look at one of our go-to shopping spots. These shows are like shoes–you can really never have too many. (Though you might stop wearing shoes all together. You don’t really need them for sitting on the couch, do you?)
